Body height and the excess cancer risk in men

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 3, Page 597-607, 1 February 2026.
What's new? In cancers that affect both sexes, men usually have a higher risk than women. While this is often attributed to behavioral factors, such as exposure to environmental carcinogens, there may be an intrinsic biological mechanism involved. Tall stature has been associated with increased cancer risk.

Plasmatic extracellular vesicle microRNAs in malignant pleural mesothelioma and asbestos-exposed subjects suggest a 2-miRNA signature as potential biomarker of disease

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Background Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive cancer mainly caused by asbestos exposure and refractory to current therapies. Specific diagnostic markers for early MPM diagnosis are needed.

Medical management of mesothelioma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Mesothelioma is a malignant tumour of pleura and other serosal tissues. It arises many years after asbestos exposure. There is currently no highly effective therapy and the median survival is approximately 10-12 months from diagnosis.

Inflammation and Cancer: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Chronic inflammation fuels tumorigenesis via “internal drivers” and “external attractions.” Targeting these core mechanisms with combined therapies/novel deliveries enables precise, potent anti‐inflammatory–antitumor treatment. ABSTRACT Inflammation is a core pathological factor regulating tumor initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance, and ...

Diagnostic value of biopsy sampling in predicting histology in patients with diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma

open access: yesCancer, 2019
The classification of diffuse malignant mesothelioma into epithelioid, biphasic, and sarcomatoid types is based on histologic patterns. The diagnosis is made on biopsies, and because of intratumoral heterogeneity, they may not be representative of the ...

Therapeutic targeting of chromatin alterations in leukemia and solid tumors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 2, Page 382-408, 15 January 2026.
Abstract Alterations in chromatin conformation and post‐translational modification of histones have become increasingly recognized as critical drivers of cancer development, progression, and therapy resistance. Recent advances in drug development have led to the establishment of several highly selective small molecule inhibitors, several of which are ...

Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma: Spotlight on Recent Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal Oncology, 2017
Pleural malignancies constitute either primary pleural malignancies, such as malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), or secondary pleural tumours, either from pleural metastasis or direct extension of adjacent tumours.

Factors influencing malignant mesothelioma survival: a retrospective review of the National Mesothelioma Virtual Bank cohort [version 3; peer review: 2 approved, 1 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2019
Background: Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a rare but deadly malignancy with about 3,000 new cases being diagnosed each year in the US.  Very few studies have been performed to analyze factors associated with mesothelioma survival, especially for ...
