In this chapter, we provide an overview of our recent work on data envelopment analysis (DEA) and Malmquist productivity indexes. First, we review the construction of static and dynamic DEA technologies. Circularity of the Malmquist productivity index

The geometric mean version of the Malmquist productivity index does not satisfy the circular test, and its component adjacent period indexes can give different productivity change measures for the same data. A fixed-base version of the index solves both problems, but it is not independent of the base period.

The Malmquist Total Factor Productivity Index

The definitions of the Malmquist output and input quantity indexes specified by D. W. Caves, L. R. Christensen, and W. E. Diewert (1982) are applied in this study. Based on these indexes, a 'Malmquist total factor productivity index' is derived for general production structures.
