Current nest box designs may not be optimal for the larger forest dormice: Pre‐hibernation increase in body mass might lead to sampling bias in ecological data

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 24, Page 18460-18466, December 2021., 2021
In this paper, we attempt to reveal why forest dormice gnawed on the entrance holes of nest boxes. Our data on seasonal variation in body mass show that this behavior was exhibited by individual dormice of higher body mass before hibernation, who were unable to pass through the entrance holes.

A comparison of microsatellites and genome‐wide SNPs for the detection of admixture brings the first molecular evidence for hybridization between Mustela eversmanii and M. putorius (Mustelidae, Carnivora)
