EMBOLIZATION OF MAMMARY ARTERY BRANCHES AFTER MAMMARY ARTERY BYPASS SURGERY

open access: yesВестник рентгенологии и радиологии, 2016
Even after performed mammary artery bypass surgery, some patients continued to have clinical manifestations of angina pectoris. This may be associated with the development of coronary stealing syndrome due to the fact that the native intrathoracic artery

Depth and Procedure Specific Effects of Antimicrobial Versus Conventional Sutures on Surgical Site Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial sutures may be particularly beneficial in colorectal and abdominal procedures, where reductions in deep SSI may offset the additional suture cost. Several studies also reported favorable wound‐healing outcomes. ABSTRACT Background Surgical site infections (SSIs) are common postoperative complications that delay wound healing and increase ...

Circulating Musclin is associated with skeletal muscle function and subclinical cardiac dysfunction in patients with cancer

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Musclin (osteocrin) is a skeletal muscle‐derived peptide that has been implicated in cardioprotective signalling pathways. Its relevance in cancer patients, who frequently experience muscle wasting and cardiotoxicity, remains unclear. This study aimed to determine whether circulating Musclin levels reflect functional capacity and

Comparison of the effect of two left internal mammary artery harvesting techniques (skeletonization and pedicled) on post coronary artery bypass surgery pain and bleeding

open access: yesResearch in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2017
Background: Recent evidence suggests that skeletonization of the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) can improve the flow and length of the flow, reduce deep sternal infections and postoperative pain.

Novel targets in headache: A narrative review

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives/Background This narrative review summarizes novel applications for the use of calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP)‐targeted therapies that go beyond migraine, the latest updates with respect to targeting pituitary adenylate cyclase‐activating peptide (PACAP) as therapeutic in migraine, as well as exploring other more recently ...

Echocardiographically Measured Epicardial Fat Predicts New-onset Atrial Fibrillation after Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery
Objective: The current study aims to investigate the role of echocardiographically measured epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness in the prediction of new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery ...

Internal mammary artery dilatation in a patient with aortic coarctation, aortic stenosis, and coronary disease. Case report

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2011
The ideal surgical approach is unclear in adult patients with coarctation of the aorta that is associated with other cardiovascular pathologies that require intervention. Standard median sternotomy allows simultaneous, coronary revascularization surgery,

Periodontitis and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes: Mechanistic Evidence

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aims to describe mechanisms linking periodontal diseases in pregnancy with adverse pregnancy outcomes. ABSTRACT Periodontal diseases, including both gingivitis and periodontitis, occur commonly among pregnant individuals. Both gingivitis and periodontitis are associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) such as early ...

Up-regulation of endothelin type B receptors in the human internal mammary artery in culture is dependent on protein kinase C and mitogen-activated kinase signaling pathways

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders, 2008
Background Up-regulation of vascular endothelin type B (ETB) receptors is implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Culture of intact arteries has been shown to induce similar receptor alterations and has therefore been suggested as a ...

Left Internal Mammary Artery Injury After Pacemaker Lead Implant—Case Report and Review of Literature

open access: yesPacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We hereby report a case of a 75‐year‐old patient who developed a large left‐sided hemopneumothorax after a routine dual‐chamber pacemaker insertion. The rare complication was caused by the pacing lead injuring the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) after perforating the right ventricle.
