Dual pathway for angiotensin II formation in human internal mammary arteries
1 Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is thought to be the main enzyme to convect antiotensin I to the vasoactive angiotensin II. Recently, in the human heart, it was found that the majority of angiotensin ZI formation was due to another enzyme ...

The internal mammary artery (IMA) has been already used in some pioneering experiences since the middle of last century but it became the graft of choice only in the 1980s, after widespread angiographic and clinical demonstration of its superiority over the saphenous vein graft (SVG).

Internal Mammary Artery Anomalies
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1990The internal mammary arteries (IMA) are considered to be the superior conduit in coronary bypass grafting (CABG). Anomalies of an IMA can influence the surgical technique and results; their true incidence is not well known. The IMA's were visualised angiographically in 262 consecutive patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation prior to CABG ...

Angiography of the Internal Mammary Artery
Acta Radiologica. Diagnosis, 1985The anatomy and catheterization techniques of the internal mammary artery (i.m.a.) are described. The diagnostic criteria and importance of i.m.a. angiography in thymoma, lymphoma, carcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, diseases of the breast, and trauma are discussed. The role of i.m.a. catheterization for i.a.

Atherosclerosis of the Internal Mammary Artery
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1976To better evaluate the incidence of atherosclerosis in the internal mammary artery (IMA), 215 IMA segments from routine postmortem examinations were evaluated microscopically. Significant atherosclerotic narrowing was seen in 9 patients (4.2%). No patient had more than a 50% reduction in lumen diameter.

Internal Mammary Artery Cannulation
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1977A technique of internal mammary artery cannulation is described. This approach offers a safe method for arterial monitoring in infants undergoing thoracotomy for palliative cardiac procedures.

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum of the internal mammary artery
Cardiovascular Surgery, 1999A case of pseudoxanthoma elasticum of the left internal mammary artery from a 61-year-old male who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting is reported. Intraoperative evaluation of the left internal mammary artery revealed partial stenosis. Histologically, the stenotic portion showed pseudoxanthoma elasticum.

Return of the Left Internal Mammary Artery
Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine, 2021Competitive flow from a non-critical native vessel leading to longitudinal narrowing/atresia of the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) is described as "the string phenomenon." We describe spontaneous recanalization of an atretic LIMA following coronary artery bypass grafting for multivessel coronary artery disease.

Atherosclerosis and the internal mammary arteries
Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1983One hundred and fifty patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), 14 (9.3%) of whom had coexisting peripheral vascular disease, underwent bilateral internal mammary arteriography to study the incidence and extent of atherosclerosis in these vessels. Significant atherosclerosis of the internal mammary arteries (IMAs) was present in three patients (2%),

Pharmacological response of internal mammary artery and gastroepiploic artery
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1990Pharmacological response of coronary artery bypass conduit is of great importance. This study was designed to clarify the contractile properties of internal mammary artery and gastroepiploic artery obtained from coronary revascularization. The response to ergonovine, serotonin, and phenylephrine was examined by isometric contraction recording apparatus.
