Spotted! Remote camera traps used in a novel design reveal a perilous situation for the Critically Endangered Northwest African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus hecki) in a conflict‐affected protected area in Benin

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 2, April–June 2025.
This first long‐term study of the Critically Endangered Northwest African cheetah in Benin highlights a very low density. The Pendjari National Park is likely to be a core area for cheetah in the WAP (W‐Arly‐Pendjari) Complex. Urgent action is needed to protect this iconic cat.

Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) relating to an analysis of the health risks associated with exposure to caterpillars with stinging hairs and the development of management recommendations

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Several species of Lepidoptera with caterpillars bearing urticating hairs are increasing their range in metropolitan France from year to year, such as the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis et Schiffermüller 1775) whose presence was historically limited to the south of France, and which is gradually being observed in the north ...

Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) on the assessment of the impact of fox population dynamics on public health

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) can be hunted as a game species. It may also be listed as a “species likely to cause damage” (ESOD – the acronym in French), for public health reasons among others. Conversely, benefits linked to the presence of foxes are also put forward, such as the predation of rodents carrying zoonotic agents.

120 Years of “Lemurology”: What has Changed?

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 2, March 2025.
Lemurology, or the study of lemurs, is a dynamic field, exploring major topics and involving diverse scientists. We reviewed scientific articles about Lemurs from 1900 to 2022 and reported how studied topics and taxa, publication languages, authorship, and study sites changed over time. We comment on how the French colonization of Madagascar has shaped

Understanding insect predator–prey interactions using camera trapping: A review of current research and perspectives Comprendre les interactions prédateurs‐proies chez les insectes à l'aide de pièges caméra: un état de l'art des recherches et perspectives

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 67-80, February 2025.
Abstract Cameras are increasingly used by ecologists to study species distribution and interactions. They are mainly used to study large animals such as mammals but can also be used to record small invertebrates, including insects. Camera traps, capturing images within a specified field of view, can be used for biomonitoring and investigating insect ...

Combining local ecological knowledge with camera traps to assess the link between African mammal life‐history traits and their occurrence in anthropogenic landscapes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 10, Page 2470-2482, October 2024.
Integrating data from a standard ecological protocol and structured participatory local knowledge allowed us to identify the functional traits associated with mammal species occurrence in anthropogenic landscapes at a local scale. These results advocate for wisely combining methods and will guide conservation orientated land‐use planning towards the ...

Estimating spatial mixing within the St. Lawrence Estuary beluga population by comparing local individual diversity and abundance

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 40, Issue 4, October 2024.
Abstract Interindividual variability in habitat preferences affect local abundance and residency times. Within a population range, this can lead to sectors having a continuous flow of unique individuals, with others being used by the same set of resident individuals.
