Variation in Mammographic Breast Density by Race
Annals of Epidemiology, 2001Because of the observed racial differences in risk of developing breast cancer, the authors conducted a study to determine the variation in breast density, a strong predictor of breast cancer risk, by race and age.Study subjects were women enrolled in Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound, Seattle, WA, aged 20-79 years, who had a screening mammogram ...

Reproducibility of visual assessment on mammographic density
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, 2007High mammographic density was an independent risk factor for breast cancer and has a higher associated risk than most other known risk factors. The reproducibility remains a major issue in assessment of breast parenchymal patterns. Misclassification of mammographic pattern can lead to significant underestimation of risk estimates.

Mammographic Density and Risk of Breast Cancer
American Society of Clinical Oncology Educational Book, 2013The radiographic appearance of the breast on mammography varies among women, and reflects variations in breast tissue composition and the different X-ray attenuation characteristics of these tissues.
