Identification of Key Microbial Signatures Associated With Breast Cancer: Machine Learning‐Based Approaches Using Gut Microbiome Data

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study investigates the potential of the gut microbiome as a non‐invasive biomarker for breast cancer (BC) using a machine learning (ML) framework. Utilizing 16S rRNA gene sequencing data from the NCBI database for 962 individuals (520 BC patients and 442 healthy controls), we processed the sequences through a FastQC, QIIME2, and DADA2 pipeline ...

Metabolic Fingerprinting of Urine Reveals Metabolite Changes in Women With Breast Cancer

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study uses metabolomics to compare urine, plasma and serum metabolite profiles across breast cancer, benign breast disease, symptomatic and healthy controls. Significant metabolic differences—especially in amino acids—were found between BC and other groups, with moderate correlations across biofluids, suggesting potential for non‐invasive BC ...

Clinically Silent Local Recurrence of Breast Cancer Detected in a Mastectomy Scar During DIEP Flap Reconstruction: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Histopathological analysis of the mastectomy scar during delayed autologous breast reconstruction revealed clinically occult local breast cancer recurrence. The patient subsequently underwent tumor re‐resection with preservation of the microvascular pedicle and repositioning of the DIEP flap.

Beyond the Triple‐Negative Label: A Case Report on Metaplastic Breast Carcinoma

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MpBC) is a rare, aggressive breast malignancy with poorer prognosis than conventional subtypes. Predominant hematogenous spread, frequent triple‐negative phenotype, chemoresistance, rarity, and poorly defined treatment protocols render MpBC a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for oncologists in ...

Blood‐based cell‐free DNA and multitarget stool RNA screening tests to detect colorectal cancer: A systematic review

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 11, 1 June 2026.
Abstract Two new tests, a cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) blood‐based test (BBT) and multitarget stool RNA (mt‐sRNA) test with in‐laboratory fecal immunochemical testing, were recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and a second BBT is under review. These tests have the potential to overcome barriers to screening.

Determinants of mammography screening behavior in Iranian women: A population-based study

open access: yesJournal of Research in Medical Sciences, 2012
Background: Breast cancer remains a substantial health concern in Iran due to delay and late stage at diagnosis and treatment. Despite the potential benefits of mammography screening for early detection of breast cancer, the performance of this screening
