pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The Hague Convention on the Law Applicable to Succession to the Estates of Deceased Persons: Do Quasi-Community Property and Mandatory Survivorship Laws Need Protection?

open access: yesLaw and Contemporary Problems, 1993
The Hague Convention of 20 October 1988 on the Law Applicable to Succession to the Estates of Deceased Persons (Succession Convention)1 clarifies succession law for those who have important connections with more than one country. It provides choice-of-law rules for intestacy, and, for those who write wills, it specifies the testator's permissible ...

Theoretical description of adiabatic laser alignment and mixed-field orientation: the need for a non-adiabatic model

open access: yes, 2011
We present a theoretical study of recent laser-alignment and mixed-field-orientation experiments of asymmetric top molecules. In these experiments, pendular states were created using linearly polarized strong ac electric fields from pulsed lasers in ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Improved mechanical quality of ceramic vat photopolymerization prints by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction

open access: yesOpen Ceramics
Vat photopolymerization (VPP) enables 3D printing of dense ceramics with complex structures, however the mandatory thermal pre-conditioning and debinding steps to remove the organic substances, can last 7 days.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Design of a Secret Sharing Scheme with Mandatory Subgroup Participation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This paper proposes an approach based on a secret sharing scheme with the mandatory participation of predefined subgroups. The proposed scheme allows secret reconstruction only when representatives from each designated group of participants (e.g., cloud ...
