The Flared Mandible Sign of the Flail Mandible

Radiology, 1976
A useful radiographic finding is described for the diagnosis of a flail mandible. The flail mandible removes forward support for the tongue, which may result in airway obstruction. Immediate radiographic diagnosis allows quick surgical correction of the fractured mandible and relief of the obstruction, decreasing the time during which an endotracheal ...

Meningioma of the mandible

Cancer, 1992
This is the first case report to the authors' knowledge of a primary extracranial meningioma located in the mandible. Ultrastructurally, the tumor cells had intricate cellular membranes and desmosome-like attachment structures. Using immunohistochemical analysis, the tumor expressed both epithelial membrane antigen and vimentin.

Fibroma of the mandible

British Journal of Oral Surgery, 1965
Summary A benign fibroma with some chondroid change occurring immediately distal to an unerupted mandibular third molar tooth in a 14-year-old boy has been described with particular reference to its histopathology. The discussion has been directed towards the question of whether the tumour was of odontogenic or non-odontogenic origin.

Atrophy of the mandible

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1951
Abstract Progressive atrophy of the maxilla and mandible is not uncommon. It may affect but a section of the bone in partly edentulous patients or it may involve the entire alveolar process if all the teeth have been lost. In some cases, it extends into the bone proper. The mandible, when extensively involved, may fracture from minor trauma.

The elongation of the mandible

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1967
A SATISFACTORY method for predicting mandibular elongation has not been reported, despite the importance of reliable predictions in orthodontic treatment. Apart from the difficulties of planning treatment without reliable forecasts of growth, the precise results of treatment procedures cannot be assessed reliably if the extent of the changes that would

Xanthofibroma of the mandible

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1986
A review of the literature reveals very few lesions within bone which appear to be xanthofibromas (fibrous histiocytomas) similar to those found in the soft tissues without other associated lesions. These are even more rare within the jaw bones. This case is presented to document such a lesion.

MRI of the mandible

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 1989
Eighteen patients with abnormalities of the mandible and two normal volunteers were studied with MRI. Correlation was made with MR, CT, plain X-rays, clinical examination, and surgical findings when possible. In primary tumors of the mandible, MR was able to differentiate between solid and cystic lesions.

Haemangiopericytoma of the mandible

Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 2010
Haemangiopericytomas (HPCs) found in bony structures are rare sarcomas of vascular origin. Here, we report the case of a 41-year-old female with a HPC originating in the right ramus of the mandible. After tumour staging and biopsy for histological reference the tumour was surgically removed.

Fractures of the Mandible

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1986
An overview of the various methods available for treatment of mandibular fractures is presented; these range from the application of arch bars and intermaxillary fixation alone to open reduction with compression plating. Whenever possible, particularly in young patients, mandibular fractures requiring open reduction are approached transorally.

The Mandible – An Analysis

Cells Tissues Organs, 1992
In this study, an attempt has been made to examine and analyse the ancieni mandibles of people who have died several hundreds of years ago during the second and first millenium B.C. These mandibles have been recovered from the burial mounds in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf) and preserved in the Nationa Museum and the Department of Antiquities in Bahrain.
