An overview of the various methods available for treatment of mandibular fractures is presented; these range from the application of arch bars and intermaxillary fixation alone to open reduction with compression plating. Whenever possible, particularly in young patients, mandibular fractures requiring open reduction are approached transorally.

A review of the literature reveals very few lesions within bone which appear to be xanthofibromas (fibrous histiocytomas) similar to those found in the soft tissues without other associated lesions. These are even more rare within the jaw bones. This case is presented to document such a lesion.

A 28-year-old woman presented with a 9-month history of progressive right-sided facial swelling. A transoral incisional biopsy was performed at a community hospital and was suggestive of ameloblastoma. The patient subsequently presented to our center for further management. X-ray (A) and CT scan (B) demonstrated a multiloculated mass extending from the

Haemangiopericytoma of the mandible
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 2010Haemangiopericytomas (HPCs) found in bony structures are rare sarcomas of vascular origin. Here, we report the case of a 41-year-old female with a HPC originating in the right ramus of the mandible. After tumour staging and biopsy for histological reference the tumour was surgically removed.

AbstractAn unusual mandibular tumor described by the eminent bone tumor specialist Dr. L. Lichenstein as a mesenchymoma is described in a seven year old African girl. Successful resection of the neoplasm and the eventual reconstruction of the defect six months later are described.

The term “mandibular osteomyelitis” nearly always refers to infection of the bone, and most cases arise from an odontogenic source. Some cases follow trauma, radiation, or medication-related bony necrosis. Early diagnosis of mandibular osteomyelitis can be difficult, and treatment often requires both surgical and medical management.

Abstract 1. Actinomycosis of the mandible can be easily misdiagnosed in its acute or early stage. 2. Improperly sterilized dental instruments may be the source of cross-contamination in actinomycosis. 3. Actinomycosis is not restricted to rural folk or to those who have a history of chewing grass or straw. 4.
