Mandibular canal variant: a case report

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 2007
The mandibular canal transmits the inferior alveolar artery, vein and the inferior alveolar nerve. From an embryological perspective, there might be three inferior dental nerves innervating three groups of mandibular teeth. During rapid prenatal growth and remodeling in the ramus region there is spread of intramembranous ossification that eventually ...

Position of the mandibular canal

International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1987
Because of its numerous advantages, sagittal split osteotomy of the ramus has become the method of choice during the past 30 years. Operative injury to the vascular and nerve bundle within the mandibular canal represents a main risk factor. X-ray studies have been carried out on dry bone material to determine position of the canal.

Bifid Mandibular Canals: Prevalence and Implications

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2015
Bifid mandibular canals (BMCs) are variations of the normal anatomy, with a reported prevalence ranging from 0.08 to 65%. Aberrations of the mandibular canal can have important clinical implications. We therefore sought to assess the prevalence of BMCs and discuss several surgical implications that may be associated with this variation.A retrospective ...

Root canal morphology of mandibular incisors

Journal of Endodontics, 1992
In this study, 100 mandibular central and lateral incisors were used to determine the number of root canals and their types, the ramifications of the root canal, the location of apical foramina, and the frequency of apical deltas. The teeth were immersed in India ink, decalcified, and cleared.

Radiographic study of mandibular nutrient canals

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1982
The appearance of nutrient canals in the mandibular anterior region was studied by evaluating the complete-mouth dental radiographs of 1,586 patients who were subdivided into four groups. The incidence of nutrient canals was very high in patients with periodontal disease, in patients of advanced age, and especially in endentulous patients.

Uncommon trajectory variations of the mandibular canal and of the mandibular incisive canal: case report

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2013
This paper aims to report and discuss a case in which unusual anatomical variations were observed in the mandibular canal (MC) and the mandibular incisive canal (MIC) in a same patient.A 49-year-old healthy female was referred for mandibular dental implant placement. Panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) were performed.

Mandibular molar with C‐shaped canal

Dental Traumatology, 1986
Abstract This case report describes a mandibular molar with a C‐shaped canal. Radiographically, the tooth had a normal morphological appearance with 2 distinct and separate roots. However, the pulp chamber door had only 2 root canal orifices, a mesiolingual orifice and a buccal C‐shaped trough that was continuous from the normal location of the ...

Radiographic study of mandibular nutrient canals.

Annals of dentistry, 1992
This study was undertaken to determine the correlation between the presence of nutrient canals in the mandibular anterior region and sex, age, edentulous mandible, periodontal disease, and high blood pressure. The periapical roentgenograms taken from the mandibular anterior region of 1040 patients were examined.
