Treatment of ankylosed mandibular first permanent molar

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2008
This report describes the treatment of a 21-year old patient with an ankylosed mandibular right first permanent molar. The tooth was noticeably infraoccluded when the patient was first seen, at age 9. Over the next 11 years, several interventions, as well as periods of observation, were undertaken to bring the infraoccluded tooth into occlusion.

Endodontic treatment of the mandibular first molar

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1957
Summary Four cases of acute dentoalveolar abscess of the mandibular first molar tooth in youthful patients are presented. A chart of pertinent symptoms (Fig. 2) is included to facilitate an overall case evaluation. Each case presented was considered to have a hopeless or questionable prognosis at the time of treatment.

Changes in mandibular third molar angle and position after unilateral mandibular first molar extraction

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2006
Third molars often become impacted because of lack of space for their eruption. Because the third molars play an important role occlusally, premolars or second molars are sometimes extracted to create space. First molars are seldom extracted to create space, but they are occasionally extracted for other reasons, especially caries. The aim of this study

Ectopic Eruption of the Mandibular First Permanent Molar

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1981
In this case, a clear pathway for eruption was provided for the mandibular left first permanent molar by reducing the distal surface of the primary molar. The occlusal surface was also surgically uncovered to remove any possibility of a mucosal barrier.

Articaine Infiltration for Anesthesia of Mandibular First Molars

Journal of Endodontics, 2008
A randomized, controlled trial of 31 healthy volunteers compared 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine buccal infiltration to buccal plus lingual infiltration of the same dose of drug in achieving pulpal anesthesia of mandibular first molar teeth.

Mandibular first molar with three distal root canals

International Endodontic Journal, 2000
AbstractCase reportA right mandibular first molar requiring root canal treatment was found to have one mesial and two distal roots and a total of five canals. The mesial and distobuccal root had two separate canals; the distolingual root had one. This case demonstrates a rare anatomical configuration and supplements previous reports of the existence of

Furcation canals in the human mandibular first molar

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1974
Abstract The presence of lateral canals from the floor of the pulp chamber to the furcation region has been demonstrated radiographically after obliteration of the root canal. Furthermore, pulpal inflammation can cause areas of rarefaction in the interradicular bone which normally resolve after routine endodontic procedures. These occurrences seem to

Five root canals in a mandibular first molar

Dental Traumatology, 1986
Abstract Endodontic therapy was performed in a mandibular first molar with 5 root canals, 3 of which were located in 3 distal roots. The existence of 3 distal root canals was assumed after careful reading of radiographs. Two of the distal root canals were close to one another and located buccally to the midline.

Root Surface Measurements of the Mandibular First Molar

Journal of Periodontology, 1985
The root surface area (RSA) per millimeter of root length was determined for 20 extracted mandibular first molars. The molars were cross‐sectioned at 1‐mm increments, and each section photographed, projected and measured with a calibrated opisometer. The RSA and per cent RSA were calculated for each 1 mm of root length (1‐mm section), the root trunk ...

Unusual root anatomy of mandibular first molars

Journal of Endodontics, 1985
The root canal anatomy of mandibular first molars is very complex. However, it is possible to locate and catheterize several canals reaching their apical foramina. One hundred and forty-five mandibular first molars were studied during the course of normal endodontic treatment.
