The Morphology and Histology of Hypopharyngeal and Mandibular gland of Five Stingless Bee Genera in Thailand

open access: yesSociobiology
Stingless bees have an exocrine gland in the head, including hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands, which play essential roles in social insect existence.

The petrotympanic canal (Huguier canal): Evolutionary, anatomical, and medical perspectives

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The petrotympanic canal, traditionally referred to as Civinini's or Huguier's canal, represents an anatomical passage connecting the middle ear and temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Despite its early description, its structural complexity and functional significance have often been underestimated. In this study, we combined historical, anatomical,

Different shape but the same topographical complexity—The lingual gross anatomy of the Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite the distinctly different shapes of their tongues, the tongue gross anatomy of Saimaa ringed seal closely resembled that of Baltic ringed seal. There were no differences in the extrinsic and intrinsic tongue muscles or their associated vascularization and innervation between Saimaa and Baltic ringed seals.

Innervation of the tubarial glands: A hypothesis‐driven anatomical review

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The tubarial glands have been described as a macroscopic bilateral glandular complex in the posterolateral nasopharynx near the torus tubarius and the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube. Since their recognition on prostate‐specific membrane antigen‐based imaging, their anatomical classification has remained debated, with converging ...

Beyond wound sealing: A dual‐functional adhesive nanofiber membrane promoting coagulation and osteogenesis in extraction sites

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Inspired by the suction mechanics of octopus suckers, a dual‐layer nanofiber membrane integrates antibacterial protection, strong wet adhesion, and osteogenic support, offering a bioinspired strategy for effective hemostasis and alveolar bone preservation.

Neurovascular coupling in bone regeneration: Mechanisms, advanced biomaterials and challenges

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates various material strategies for neurovascularized bone regeneration, including electroactive scaffolds, ion‐loaded materials, drug delivery systems, surface modifications, cells/cell products, growth factors, and peptides. These approaches aim to synergistically promote the regeneration of neural, vascular, and bone tissues ...

Morphology of Larger Salivary Glands in Peccaries (Pecari tajacu Linnaeus, 1758)

open access: yesAnimals
This work aims to study the major salivary gland morphology of peccaries during their growth. The glands were analyzed using macroscopic description, light microscopy, electron microscopy, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry.

Optimized micro‐sized cell sphere‐matrix niche co‐aggregates promote efficient oral and craniomaxillofacial bone regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The construct of cell‐niche co‐aggregates (GelMA‐SHED sphere‐DDMPs) promotes cranial and periodontal bone regeneration and ensures angiogenic‐osteogenic coupling by downregulating miR‐34c‐5p to enhance the expression of NOTCH1 and its intracellular domain (NICD).

Evolutionary transformation of mouthparts from particle-feeding to piercing carnivory in Viper copepods: Review and 3D analyses of a key innovation using advanced imaging techniques

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2019
Background Novel feeding adaptations often facilitate adaptive radiation and diversification. But the evolutionary origins of such feeding adaptations can be puzzling if they require concordant change in multiple component parts.
