Marked tree demographic variation along subtle elevation differences partially explains species' habitat associations in an Amazonian forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 10, Page 2860-2874, October 2025.
These findings show that even small differences in elevation can lead to biologically meaningful variation in resource access that translates into significant differences in tree growth and survival. However, resource access could not fully explain the patterns of topographically driven demographic variation we observed. While certain species may still

Changes in land cover drove the recent range expansion of a tropical farmland bird

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2025, Issue 9, September 2025.
Several bird species associated with agricultural landscapes in the Palearctic and in the Nearctic (i.e. farmland birds) have been experiencing severe population declines since the 1970s, mainly due to habitat loss driven by agricultural intensification.

Impacts of fire on canopy structure and its resilience depend on successional stage in Amazonian secondary forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 394-410, August 2025.
We analyzed the effects of fire on secondary forests' vertical structure in different successional stages using lidar metrics. Our results show that independently of the successional stage, secondary forests that experienced fire were more degraded than unburned secondary forest areas. Overall, our results show that forests in early successional stage (
