Assessing diversity of King Crab Lithodes spp. in the south-eastern pacific using phylogeny and molecular species delimitation methods. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2022
The purpose of this study was to assess the biodiversity of individual Lithodes spp. across the Southerneast Pacific with multilocus molecular markers. A complex of independent evolutionary units comprising at least two genetically distinct lineages with different spatial distribution is observed.

Timing and magnitude of climate-driven range shifts in transboundary fish stocks challenge their management. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol, 2022
We use model projections to explore the timing and intensity in the distribution of marine fish stocks that are shared across the world's Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ). Our findings suggest that many shared stocks’ distribution and catch are expected to change in most EEZs by 2030.

Institutional amnesia pushes fish spawning aggregations towards extirpation

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 489-495, April 2023., 2023
Abstract How institutions create and manage knowledge has been explored in the context of management and business science. However, little effort has been made to understand how, and why, these institutions forget what works or does not work, and no research in this field has been conducted in conservation or fisheries science.

Roadkill patterns in Latin American birds and mammals

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 31, Issue 9, Page 1756-1783, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Aim Roads are a major threat for wildlife, degrading habitat and causing mortality via wildlife–vehicle collisions. In Latin America, the conjunction of high biodiversity and a rapidly expanding road network is reason for concern. We introduce an approach that combines species traits and habitat preferences to describe vulnerability and map ...

Effects of harvesting on subtidal kelp forests (Lessonia trabeculata) in central Chile

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 13, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
Abstract The systematic degradation of marine ecosystems is a global phenomenon that has important and diverse consequences including biodiversity loss and reduced ecosystem service provisions. In temperate regions, subtidal kelp forests are dominant ecosystems in rocky coasts, subjected to the influence of local‐scale stressors and regional ...

Threats of illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing to biodiversity and food security in the Republic of the Congo

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 5, Page 1463-1472, October 2021., 2021
Abstract Illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing poses a major threat to effective management of marine resources, affecting biodiversity and communities dependent on these coastal resources. Spatiotemporal patterns of industrial fisheries in developing countries are often poorly understood, and global efforts to describe spatial patterns of

Large‐scale patterns of green turtle trophic ecology in the eastern Pacific Ocean

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 12, Issue 6, June 2021., 2021
Abstract Trophic position and niche width are fundamental components of a species’ ecology, reflecting resource use, and influencing key demographic parameters such as somatic growth, maturation, and survival. Concepts about a species’ trophic niche space have important implications for local management and habitat protection, and can shed light about ...

Community‐based conservation strategies to end open access: The case of Fish Refuges in Mexico

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 3, Issue 1, January 2021., 2021
Abstract Secure property rights are often seen as a precondition of incentives for long‐term sustainable use by communities dependent on natural resources. Securing formal property rights can be challenging in coastal small‐scale fisheries, which often operate under open access conditions.

Variação na composição isotópica do Cynoscion guatucupa no Oceano Atlântico Sul [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of this study was to analyze the isotopic composition in muscle of striped weakfish Cynoscion guatucupa from Southwest Atlantic Ocean in order to evaluate a possible variation in δ13C and δ15N in response to dietary shifts that occur as animals ...
