Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Extended multiple-model estimator for radar maneuvering target tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]An extended multiple-model estimator for tracking multiple maneuvering targets has been developed in this paper. In this approach, an equivalent filter bank structure is designed to solve the uncertainty problems caused by target maneuvering ...

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.

Guidance Law and Neural Control for Hypersonic Missile to Track Targets

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2016
Hypersonic technology plays an important role in prompt global strike. Because the flight dynamics of a hypersonic vehicle is nonlinear, uncertain, and highly coupled, the controller design is challenging, especially to design its guidance and control ...

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

Tracking a Maneuvering Target with a Non-holonomic Agent Using Artificial Potentials and Sliding Mode Control

open access: yes, 2008
In this article we consider tracking a maneuvering target with a non-holonomic agent. The target and the agent move in 2-dimensional space. The task is to capture/intercept the moving target using a continuous time control scheme based on artificial ...
