Contrast in Mycorrhizal Associations Leads to Divergent Rhizosphere Metabolomes and Plant–Soil Feedback Among Grassland Species

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 2, February 2026.
Most terrestrial plants are colonised by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi but vary in the degree to which they benefit from and depend on these fungi. Here we show that plants can make the interaction with mycorrhizal fungi more beneficial to themselves by regulating the chemical composition of organic compounds released by plant roots into the soil ...

Uniquely human temporal thoughts

open access: yesMind &Language, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 137-157, February 2026.
Life on Earth will eventually come to an end. The thought expressed in the previous sentence is about a point in time that is not known to the individual entertaining the thought. This paper is concerned with the nature of such temporal thoughts. We propose that the capacity to mentally represent thoughts about non‐specific temporal intervals is a ...

The contribution of a surge event to infilling in a barrier‐enclosed estuary: Insights from field observations

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 1, January 2026.
A storm surge in a sheltered, barrier‐enclosed estuary amplified water levels and flood dominance, increasing suspended sediments and altering transport pathways. Observations showed a sixfold rise in flux to the upper estuary, underscoring storms' major role in estuarine infilling processes.

cDNA-RNA subtractive hybridization reveals increased expression of mycocerosic acid synthase in intracellular Mycobacterium bovis BCG. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Identifying genes that are differentially expressed by Mycobacterium bovis BCG after phagocytosis by macrophages will facilitate the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of host cell-intracellular pathogen interactions. To identify such genes a cDNA-

Partisan sorting, fatalism, and Supreme Court legitimacy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, Volume 70, Issue 1, Page 238-255, January 2026.
Abstract This paper studies the contours of Supreme Court legitimacy. First, we construct a data set of surveys from 2012 to 2024 to show that diffuse support now diverges among partisans; we then analyze an original, six‐wave panel survey that reveals the stability of this partisan sorting.
