Manganese-Catalyzed and Base-Switchable Synthesis of Amines or Imines via Borrowing Hydrogen or Dehydrogenative Condensation [PDF]
The use of earth-abundant transition metals as a noble metal replacement in catalysis is especially interesting if different catalytic reactivity is observed.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Manganese-Catalyzed Ammonia Oxidation into Dinitrogen [PDF]
Base metal-catalyzed oxidative conversion of ammonia into dinitrogen is a promising process to utilize ammonia as an energy carrier. In this study, we report the manganese-catalyzed ammonia oxidation under chemical and electrochemical conditions ...

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

A simulation model for the world manganese market [PDF]
Proposals concerning the future regime to govern deepsea mining put forward at the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea reflect a lack of empirically based criteria, particularly with reference to the impact of seabed mining on the metal ...

Utilization of Low Grade Alabama Manganese Ores [PDF]
Includes bibliographical references (p. 16).The object of this investigation was to find a general and profitable method for the purification and concentration of low grade Alabama manganese ores, which had little, if any, value in their present form.

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

'Yersinia pseudotuberculosis' mntH functions in intracellular manganese accumulation, which is essential for virulence and survival in cells expressing functional Nramp1 [PDF]
Manganese has an important yet undefined role in the virulence of many bacterial pathogens. In this study we confirm that a null mutation in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis mntH reduces intracellular manganese accumulation.

Relationship Between Neurologic Symptoms and Signs and FMR1 Genotype in Premutation Carriers
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Fragile X‐associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is the most severe late‐onset condition caused by a premutation in the FMR1 gene, characterized by expanded CGG triplet repeats of 55–200. Clinical presentations of FXTAS, including gait ataxia, kinetic tremor, cognitive decline, and rare Parkinsonism, are linked to ...
