Role of selenium in the pathophysiology of cardiorenal anaemia syndrome

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 770-780, April 2025.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have multiple bidirectional mechanisms, and anaemia is one of the critical factors that are associated with the progression of the two disorders [referred to as cardiorenal anaemia syndrome (CRAS)].

Hydrogen Halide Gas Sensors: Active Materials, Operation Principles, and Emerging Technologies

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
This review considers hydrogen halide (HX) gas sensors across functional materials and principles: acoustic, chemical, optical and nanophotonic. The strong acidity and reactivity of HX gases are discussed as constraints for stability and selectivity of these devices.

How Mn and Ti Promote Metal Dusting in NiCu Alloys

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Cu/MnO catalysis mechanisms of CO lead to C uptake in NiCu alloys and a fairly uniform layered metal dusting attack. Mn effectively eliminates the catalytic inhibition benefits of Cu in NiCu alloys. Rather Cu is detrimental if Mn is present as it promotes MnO catalysis.

Subacute exposure of rats by metal oxide nanoparticles through the airways: general toxicity and neuro-functional effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In order to create an animal model of human inhalational exposure by industrial trAct metal fumes, nanoparticulate metal oxides (MnO2 , CdO2 , PbO) were synthesized and instilled into the trachea of rats 5 times a week for 6 weeks (metal doses per ...
