Manganese poisoning and the attack of trivalent manganese upon catecholamines
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1987Human manganese poisoning or manganism results in damage to the substantia nigra of the brain stem, a drop in the level of the inhibitory neurotransmitter dopamine, and symptoms resembling those of Parkinson's disease. Manganic (Mn3+) manganese ions were shown to be readily produced by O-2 in vitro and spontaneously under conditions obtainable in the ...

Manganese poisoning: Clinical and biochemical observations
Environmental Research, 1974Abstract Clinical and biochemical studies were conducted in twelve cases of suspected manganese poisoning. On the basis of neurological observations they were divided into three grades of poisoning, mild, moderate and severe. A significant increase in serum calcium and adenosine deaminase levels was observed in cases of mild and moderate grades of ...

An autopsy case of a 52-year-old man suffering from chronic manganese poisoning (CMP) is reported with determination of the manganese distribution in the brain. The patient had been working in a manganese ore crushing plant since 1965. In 1967 he began to complain of difficulties in walking and diminished libido.

In 46 persons among 119 workers at a foundry producing manganese alloy, manganese levels of over 20 µg% were found in the blood without marked objective symptoms of manganese poisoning. Comparison with a control group showed differences in magnesium and calcium levels, AlAT, AspAT, LDH, LAP activities, albumin, α1- and Β-globulin, bilirubin ...

[Effects of polygala on the neurogenesis of manganese poisoned mice].
Zhonghua lao dong wei sheng zhi ye bing za zhi = Zhonghua laodong weisheng zhiyebing zazhi = Chinese journal of industrial hygiene and occupational diseases, 2015To investigate the effects of polygala on leaning and memory and the expression of Microtubule associated protein on manganese poisoned mice.60 female Kunming mice were randomly and equally divided into 5 group. They are normal control group (CG), manganese poisoned group (MG), manganese poisoned with polygala high dose group (MHG), manganese poisoned ...

Psychiatric illness due to manganese poisoning
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1983Rats were exposed to manganese (1 mg/ml through drinking water) daily to study behavioral and neurochemical changes 14 and 30 days after the treatment. Manganese produced hyperactivation after 14 and 30 days with greater magnitude of alteration at the latter period.

Myoclonic involuntary movement associated with chronic manganese poisoning
Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 2002We report a 17-year-old man showing myoclonic involuntary movement (IVM) associated with chronic manganese (Mn) poisoning. The patient, a welder, showed myoclonic IVM mainly in the right upper and lower extremities, elevated levels of Mn in the blood and hair and high-intensity signals in the globus pallidus on T1-weighted MR images.

[Investigation on occupational manganese poisoning hazard in Guang Xi].
Zhonghua lao dong wei sheng zhi ye bing za zhi = Zhonghua laodong weisheng zhiyebing zazhi = Chinese journal of industrial hygiene and occupational diseases,
