Energy Flux in Mangrove Ecosystems
2021The energy balance at the Earth’s land surface requires that the energy gained from net radiation be balanced by the fluxes of sensible and latent heat to the atmosphere and the storage of heat in the soil. Latent and sensible heat are crucial variables in ecology, hydrology and meteorology because they give influence to a climate that can be used to ...

Biology of mangroves and mangrove Ecosystems
2001Mangroves are woody plants that grow at the interface between land and sea in tropical and sub-tropical latitudes where they exist in conditions of high salinity, extreme tides, strong winds, high temperatures and muddy, anaerobic soils. There may be no other group of plants with such highly developed morphological and physiological adaptations to ...

Mangrove Ecosystem Components and Benefits
2023There is a wide variety of plant, animal, and microbial life in mangrove forests because of their location at the boundary between terrestrial and marine environments. Because of their central role in the development and upkeep of the mangrove ecosystem, microbes also serve as a useful and significant source of biotechnologically engineered materials ...

Cyanobacteria in mangrove ecosystems
Biodiversity and Conservation, 2015Mangroves are subject to the effects of tides and fluctuations in environmental conditions, which may reach extreme conditions. These ecosystems are severely threatened by human activities despite their ecological importance. Although mangroves are characterized by a highly specialized but low plant diversity in comparison to most other tropical ...

Mangroves are tropical and subtropical coastal vegetations and contribute an enormous amount of organic matter to the surrounding waters. Fungi densely colonize lignocellulosic mangrove detritus. Manglicolous fungi, of which about 200 species are known, are lignicolous fungi exclusive to decaying mangrove wood. Most of these belong to Ascomycota.

CO2 Fluxes in Mangrove Ecosystems
2018Mangroves have long been recognized as a potential sink of carbon owing to their high productivity and carbon sequestration potential. The short term CO2 dynamics of mangroves are often put under lenses to examine their potential to combat the human induced CO2 emission. Mainly three types of CO2 fluxes take place within a mangrove ecosystem namely (i)

Mangrove Ecosystems under Climate Change
2017This chapter assesses the response of mangrove ecosystems to possible outcomes of climate change, with regard to the following categories: (i) distribution, diversity, and community composition, (ii) physiology of flora and fauna, (iii) water budget, (iv) productivity and remineralization, (v) carbon storage in biomass and sediments, and (vi) the ...

MANGROVE ECOSYSTEMS AND THEIR CONSERVATION
Mangrove ecosystems are arguably the most productive and diversified ecosystems present on the planet. Coastal ecosystems vary from the dense mangrove forests near the river mouth to the coastal dunes of the beach and the seagrass beds to the beautiful coral reefs just to name a few.Rayan Bhattacharya +3 more
