Modeling Sub‐Grid Peatland Vegetation Dynamics in the ORCHIDEE‐PEAT Land Surface Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Peatlands store about one‐third of total global soil carbon. Vegetation composition strongly regulates peatland carbon dynamics. Global warming and climate‐driven ecohydrological changes are expected to alter peatland vegetation composition, necessitating accurate simulation of vegetation dynamics to predict future fate of peatland carbon.

Identifying predictors of tropical cyclone impacts on coastal agriculture to assess coastal wetland buffering signals

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 3, March 2026.
Our findings provide novel evidence of wetland buffering signals for storm impacts on agriculture, though only over short spatial ranges. The study highlights the importance of conserving and restoring coastal wetlands near croplands to enhance climate resilience.

Patterns of Tree Species Abundance and Diversity on Urban Sidewalks in Macapá, Amapá, Brazil

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 2, March 2026.
This study presents the first systematic inventory of street trees in Macapá, Northeastern Brazilian Amazon. Results reveal a dominance of exotic and fruit‐bearing species, low tree density, and a replacement of large canopy trees by smaller ones, indicating potential losses in ecosystem services and the need for more biodiversity‐focused afforestation

Discovering PETases: An Interlink Between Engineering Enzymes and Microbiomes

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 3, March 2026.
In this review‐type article, we discuss some recent trends in the identification of polyethylene terephthalate‐degrading enzymes (PETases) from nature. We highlight that the discovery of novel PETases can be improved by an interlink between reshaping microbiomes and engineering proteins.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? Using Open Data to Investigate Movements of the Streamer‐Tailed Tyrant (Gubernetes yetapa)

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Migration is a global phenomenon shaping bird assemblages in response to seasonal climate variations. The Streamer‐tailed Tyrant (Gubernetes yetapa) is a Neotropical bird associated with wetlands. Although considered common across most of its range, its natural history remains poorly understood, and some authors have suggested it may exhibit ...
