Centre-manifold reduction of bifurcating flows

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015
In this paper we describe a general and systematic approach to the centre-manifold reduction and normal form computation of flows undergoing complicated bifurcations.

Melnikov theory for two-dimensional manifolds in three-dimensional flows [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We present a Melnikov method to analyze two-dimensional stable or unstable manifolds associated with a saddle point in three-dimensional non-volume preserving autonomous systems. The time-varying perturbed locations of such manifolds is obtained under very general, non-volume preserving and with arbitrary time-dependence, perturbations.

Role of Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics in Environmental Engineering Publications

open access: yes, 2006
This Journal deals with a great number of issues associated with assessing and controlling water and air quality. Accurately describing the movement of air and water is sometimes critical to the applicability of the concepts and methods presented.

Parametric Vibration Analysis of Pipes Conveying Fluid by Nonlinear Normal Modes and a Numerical Iterative Approach

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2019
Nonlinear normal modes and a numerical iterative approach are applied to study the parametric vibrations of pipes conveying pulsating fluid as an example of gyroscopic continua.

Quantum mechanics of a generalised rigid body [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We consider the quantum version of Arnold’s generalisation of a rigid body in classical mechanics. Thus, we quantise the motion on an arbitrary Lie group manifold of a particle whose classical trajectories correspond to the geodesics of any one-sided ...

Stability analysis of a class of non-newtonian fluids based on generalized vector variational-like inequalities on riemannian manifold

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019
Fluid mechanics is a branch of mechanics. It is the science of studying fluid phenomena and related mechanical behaviors. So far, the mutual soaking and fusion between fluid mechanics and other disciplines have formed many branches, many physicists and ...

Delocalization transitions of semi-flexible manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
Semi-flexible manifolds such as fluid membranes or semi-flexible polymers undergo delocalization transitions if they are subject to attractive interactions. We study manifolds with short-ranged interactions by field-theoretic methods based on the operator product expansion of local interaction fields.

The geometry of barotropic flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this article we write the equations of barotropic compressible fluid mechanics as a geodesic equation on an infinite-dimensional manifold. The equations are given by \begin{align} u_t + \nabla_uu = -\frac{1}{\rho} \grad p \\ \rho_t + \diver{(\rho u)} = 0, \end{align} where the fluid fills up a compact manifold $M$, $u$ is a time-dependent velocity ...

Statistical Mechanics of liquids and fluids in curved space [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In this article, we review the progress made on the statistical mechanics of liquids and fluids embedded in curved space. Our main focus will be on two-dimensional manifolds of constant nonzero curvature and on the influence of the latter on the phase behavior, thermodynamics and structure of simple liquids. Reference will also be made to existing work

Parabolic equations on uniformly regular Riemannian manifolds and degenerate initial boundary value problems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In this work there is established an optimal existence and regularity theory for second order linear parabolic differential equations on a large class of noncompact Riemannian manifolds. Then it is shown that it provides a general unifying approach to problems with strong degeneracies in the interior or at the boundary.
