Why forest fails to recover after repeated wildfires in Amazonian floodplains? Experimental evidence on tree recruitment limitation

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 109, Issue 10, Page 3473-3486, October 2021., 2021
Our experimental evidence suggests that soil nutrient limitations may slow down forest recovery after repeated wildfires in Amazonian floodplains. Yet, because floodplain trees are able to germinate from seeds and establish successfully in twice burnt forests, seed limitation seems to be the reason why forest recovery fails persistently. Seeding native

Including rewiring in the estimation of the robustness of mutualistic networks

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 106-116, January 2020., 2020
Abstract Species are entangled within communities by their interactions in such a manner that their local extinction may unchain coextinction cascades and impact community dynamics and stability. Despite increasing attention, simulation models to estimate the robustness of interaction networks largely neglect the important role of interaction rewiring,

Artisanal Extraction and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Medicinal Use of Crabwood Oil (Carapa guianensis Aublet.) in a Peri‐Urban Várzea Environment in the Amazon Estuary

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Várzea forests of the Amazon estuary contain species of importance to riverine communities. For example, the oil extracted from the seeds of crabwood trees is traditionally used to combat various illnesses and as such artisanal extraction processes have been maintained. The objectives of this study were to (1) describe the process involved in artisanal

Photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under ultraviolet light associated or not with chemical ultraviolet filters evaluated by Raman spectroscopy

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the photodegradation of commercial insect repellents containing DEET and IR‐3535 under UV‐A and UV‐B irradiation using Raman spectroscopy. Pure DEET and IR‐3535 showed intrinsic photostability, whereas DEET diluted in ethanol and a commercial DEET‐based formulation exhibited significant spectral changes after UV exposure.

Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) as a Potential Biological Control Agent of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 4, Page 335-342, April 2026.
First and third instar Chrysoperla externa showed efficient predatory capacity at low R. indica density, but second instar C. externa exhibits a density‐dependent predatory ability. The lacewing C. externa shows promise as a biocontrol agent for R. indica in coconut because it consumed 8362 R. indica females across all its larval instars.

Evaluation of Different Cryoprotectant Combinations in Testicular Vitrification in Dogs

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 60, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Testicular vitrification requires the use of high concentrations of cryoprotectants, which can cause damage to samples due to their toxicity. The combination of these substances comes up as a way to mitigate this problem. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate three cryoprotectant combinations in the testicular vitrification of dogs.
