Evaluation of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment by Electromyography
Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1992Low back pain patients were treated four times with manipulation treatment. Effectiveness of treatment was examined by surface EMG using integration and power spectrum analysis. There was an increase in median frequency after initial treatment. IEMG showed changes after manipulative treatment.

An osteopathic approach to manipulation
1990Manipulation is only part of the armamentarium of the osteopathic physician. It is important, therefore, to place manipulation into context on the main osteopathic theme, which is that health and disease depend to a large extent on the structural integrity of the body, that when the body has a normal framework it will remain healthy, but if the ...

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment in Pregnant Women
Journal of Osteopathic Medicine, 2012Abstract Pregnant women experience extensive physiologic and structural changes during pregnancy that affect their daily functioning. The addition of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to the standard care of pregnant women has been hypothesized to enhance homeostasis and improve quality of life as the body adapts to these changes.

A novel simulation enhanced education for osteopathic manipulation of hospitalized patients
Journal of Osteopathic MedicineContext Simulation-based medical education (SBME) is a method for enhancing learner skill prior to initiating care for real patients. Although the use of SBME continues to grow, there is limited data on simulations related to osteopathic medical training.

Cannabimimetic effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment.
The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, 2005Endogenous cannabinoids activate cannabinoid receptors in the brain and elicit mood-altering effects. Parallel effects (eg, anxiolysis, analgesia, sedation) may be elicited by osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), and previous research has shown that the endorphin system is not responsible for OMT's mood-altering effects.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment in the Management of Biliary Dyskinesia
Journal of Osteopathic Medicine, 2014Abstract Biliary dyskinesia is a functional gastrointestinal disorder of the gallbladder and sphincter of Oddi. Diagnosis is made on the basis of symptoms of biliary colic in the absence of cholelithiasis and gallbladder inflammation. Palpatory findings of tissue texture changes at midthoracic levels (T6-T9) may correspond to visceral ...
