Changes in the transformative potential of action proposals in Finnish Red Lists from 1986 to 2019

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Red lists provide critical knowledge regarding biodiversity decline, especially in Finland, where broad assessments have been made regularly since the 1980s. They deliver information on the threat status of species and ecosystems, propose actions to guide conservation policy, and have the potential to spur transformative change.

Prognostic impact of time from diagnosis to start of radiotherapy in anal cancer

open access: yesColorectal Disease, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Aim A prolonged time from diagnosis to start of radiotherapy (TTRT) for malignant disease may negatively influence survival, but studies in squamous cell carcinoma of the anus (SCCA) are largely lacking. Prioritizing Shark, Ray, and Chimaera Conservation in Rapidly Changing Polar Waters

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Polar sharks, rays, and chimaeras face growing pressures from changing sea‐ice conditions, expanding fisheries, and limited protection. Escalating Fire‐Driven Forest Loss in Protected Tropical Forests

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
More than 4 million hectares of protected tropical forest have been lost to stand‐replacing fire since 2001, with annual losses increasing through time in both the Americas and Africa. Protection most commonly reduced the proportion of stand‐replacing fire, but could not decouple temporal fire trends inside PAs from those outside.

Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support Is Associated With Incident Steatotic Liver Disease in a Nationwide Longitudinal Analysis of the JMDC Claims Database

open access: yesHepatology Research, Volume 56, Issue 8, Page 1254-1263, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Steatotic liver disease (SLD), including metabolic dysfunction–associated SLD (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction–associated alcohol‐related liver disease (MetALD), is a growing global health burden. Although impaired mastication is linked to metabolic disorders, its role in SLD remains unclear.
