MANNA ASH (FRAXINUS ORNUS L.) IN TURKEY

open access: closedActa Horticulturae, 2010
Manna ash (Fraxinus ornus L.) is a very important tree species among hardwood taxa found in our country. This importance comes from the fact that it is a multi-purpose species. The species has been defined as an ornamental plant for urban planting sites due to its aesthetic characteristics.

Erratum to "Structural and physiological responses to ozone in Manna ash (Fraxinus ornus L.) leaves of seedlings and mature trees under controlled and ambient conditions"

open access: closedScience of The Total Environment, 2010
Leaf-level microscopical symptom structure and physiological responses were investigated in seedlings experimentally exposed to ozone (O3) in indoor chambers (150 ppb, 8 hd(-1) per 7 weeks), and field trees of Manna ash (Fraxinus ornus) exposed to ambient O3 (max 93 ppb per one growing season).

Seasonal pattern of mannitol and malate accumulation in leaves of two manna ash species ( Fraxinus ornus L. and F. angustifolia Vahl) growing in Sicily

open access: closedPlant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, 2002
ABSTRACT The content of mannitol and malate was assayed enzimatically during spring, summer and autumn, in leaves of two species of ash, Fraxinus ornus L. and Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl, traditionally cultivated in Sicily for the extraction of manna. Both species contain high levels of mannitol and show, on a dry weight basis, a 65–80% increase in the ...

Intake, digestibility and nutrient utilization of oriental hornbeam and manna ash browse by goats and sheep

open access: closedSmall Ruminant Research, 1997
Some woody forage plants are a significant source of nutrients for small ruminants grazing Mediterranean systems during summer. We quantified DMI (g kg−1 BW0.75 day−1), DMD (%) and utilization of nutrients of oriental hornbeam (Carpinus orientalis Mill.) and manna ash (Fraxinus ornus L.) browse by goats and sheep.
