Stratified Outcome Evaluation of Peritonitis

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery, 2014
Background: The heterogeneity of disease severity in peritonitis makes outcome prediction challenging. Risk evaluation in secondary peritonitis can direct treatment planning, predict outcomes and aid in the conduct of surgical audits.

Controllable DNA Condensation by Mixed Cationic Gemini/Nonionic Surfactant Systems: Structure, Thermodynamics, and Cytotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Surfactants and Detergents, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Controllable DNA condensation is important for nucleic‐acid packaging and non‐viral gene‐delivery systems. This study aimed to determine how the composition of mixed nonionic C12E10 and cationic gemini C12C6C12Br2 surfactants regulates DNA condensation, structure, thermodynamics, and cytotoxicity.

The spatial association between peritraumatic and chronic pain and its relation to posttraumatic stress disorder among trauma survivors

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic pain frequently co‐occurs with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One theory proposes that some chronic pain may reflect pain reexperiencing (i.e., reactivation of somatosensory trauma memories). Although some research supports this theory, evidence from clinical survey studies is limited and methodologically constrained.

On Mannheim Partner Curves of $AW(k)-$type

open access: yes, 2010
In this study, firstly, Mannheim curves with $κ_1 (s) \ne 0$, $κ_2 (s) \ne 0$ are considered and the conditions are obtained for Mannheim curve to be slant helix. Moreover, the necessary and sufficient conditions are investigated for Mannheim curve to be AW(2), AW(3) and weak AW(2)-types, respectively.

PRDM1 Knockdown Promotes Ferroptosis and Sunitinib Sensitivity by Modulating the PI3K/Akt Signaling Through Inhibition of ESM1 Transcription in Renal Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a commonly occurring and considerable burden on public health. Although chemotherapy benefits patients with advanced RCC, sunitinib resistance leads to a poor prognosis. Ferroptosis is also involved in sunitinib resistance in RCC.

A Proof‐of‐Concept Study of Language‐Stratified Assessment for Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy: Integrating the Animal Naming Test and Serum IL‐6

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) involves subtle cognitive dysfunction and systemic inflammation and is associated with an increased risk of overt hepatic encephalopathy. The Animal Naming Test (ANT1) is a rapid semantic fluency tool for MHE assessment, but its performance across different primary spoken languages remains unclear.

Diagnostic value of the patellar tendon–lateral trochlear ridge distance and the patellar tendon–trochlear groove angle in differentiating lateral patellar instability from malalignment‐induced patellofemoral pain

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare the patellar tendon–lateral trochlear ridge (PT‐LTR) distance and patellar tendon–trochlear groove angle (PT‐TGA) between patients with lateral patellar instability (LPI) and those with malalignment‐induced patellofemoral pain (PFP), and to evaluate their differential diagnostic validity.

Exometabolomics Reveals Metabolic Modulation Induced by Chia Oil Supplementation in Adipose Tissue Explants From Obese Mice

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
The experimental design and the exometabolomic findings obtained by 1H‐NMR analysis of conditioned media from subcutaneous (SAT) and epididymal adipose tissue (EAT) explants of control and obese mice supplemented with chia oil (1.5% (w/w)). Following 8 weeks of control or high‐fat diet and 5 weeks of chia oil supplementation, SAT and EAT explants were ...

Effect of COMT and UGT1A Variants on Clinical Response to Opicapone in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Symptomatic treatment is based on dopaminergic replacement. With disease progression, the initial benefit of levodopa becomes inconsistent, and motor complications emerge.
