A Power Formula for the Mantel–Haenszel Test for Differential Item Functioning [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Psychological Measurement, 2015
The asymptotic power of the Mantel–Haenszel (MH) test for the differential item function (DIF) is derived. The formula describes the behavior of the power when the number of items is large, so that the measured latent trait can be considered as the matching variable in the MH test.

A method of assessing the sensitivity of the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test to an unobserved confounder. [PDF]

open access: yesPhilos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci, 2008
Observational studies, including the case-control design frequently used in epidemiology, are subject to a number of biases and possible confounding factors. Failure to adjust with them may lead to an erroneous conclusion about the existence of a causal relationship between exposure and disease.

Mantel-Haenszel Test Statistics for Correlated Binary Data [PDF]

open access: yesBiometrics, 1997
This paper proposes two new Mantel-Haenszel test statistics for correlated binary data in 2 x 2 tables that are asymptotically valid in both sparse data (many strata) and large-strata limiting models. Monte Carlo experiments show that the statistics compare favorably to previously proposed test statistics, especially for 5-25 small to moderate-sized ...

Some Mantel‐Haenszel tests of Rasch model assumptions [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 2001
A class of Rasch model tests is proposed, all of them based on the Mantel‐Haenszel chi‐squared statistic. All tests make use of the ‘sufficient statistics’ property the Rasch model possesses. One element of our general class, the test for item bias developed by Holland and Thayer, has been discussed extensively in the psychometric literature.
