New Indivisible Geoscience Paradigm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Earth's interior, I posit, is like one of the rare, oxygen-starved "enstatite chondrite" meteorites (and unlike a more-oxidized "ordinary chondrite" as has been believed for seventy years). Laboratory-analyzed enstatite-chondrite samples are comparable to having-in-hand impossibleto- gather deep-Earth samples.

The Effect of Lower Mantle Metallization on Magnetic Field Generation in Rocky Exoplanets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Recent theoretical and experimental evidence indicates that many of the materials that are thought to exist in the mantles of terrestrial exoplanets will metallize and become good conductors of electricity at mantle pressures. This allows for strong electromagnetic coupling of the core and the mantle in these planets. We use a numerical dynamo model to

Tectonic Setting and Evolution of Anatectic Melt Composition During Prograde Metamorphism up to UHT Metamorphism: Constraints From P–T–t–Melting Path From Rundvågshetta, Lützow–Holm Complex, East Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pressure–temperature–time (P–T–t) evolution of a metapelitic ultrahigh‐temperature (UHT) granulite from Rundvågshetta (Lützow–Holm Complex, East Antarctica) and chemical evolution of partial melt during the prograde metamorphism up to UHT metamorphism are studied in detail.

A ~60 Myr periodicity is common to marine-87Sr/86Sr, fossil biodiversity, and large-scale sedimentation: what does the periodicity reflect? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geology, 120, 217-226 (2012), 2012
We find that the marine 87Sr/86Sr record shows a significant periodicity of 59.3 \pm 3 Myr. The 87Sr/86Sr record is 171{\deg} \pm 12{\deg}out of phase with a 62 (\pm 3) Myr periodicity previously reported in the record of marine-animal diversity. These periodicities are close to 58 (\pm 4) Myr cycles found for the number of gap-bounded sedimentary ...

Numerical simulations of an ocean/continent convergent system: influence of subduction geometry and mantle wedge hydration on crustal recycling

open access: yes, 2009
The effects of the hydration mechanism on continental crust recycling are analyzed through a 2D finite element thermo-mechanical model. Oceanic slab dehydration and consequent mantle wedge hydration are implemented using a dynamic method.

Long-term memory of subduction processes in the lithospheric mantle: evidence from the geochemistry of basic dykes in the Gardar Province of South Greenland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The rift-related magmas of the Proterozoic Gardar Igneous Province were emplaced across the contact between the South Greenland Archaean craton and the Palaeoproterozoic Ketilidian mobile belt.

Hydrous Asthenosphere Underneath the Northern Pannonian Basin

open access: yesTerra Nova, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study reveals the structural hydroxyl content in clinopyroxenes of three cumulate xenoliths from the Nógrád‐Gömör/Novohrad‐Gemer Volcanic Field (northern Pannonian Basin), with values ranging from 275 to 384 ppm. Based on these data, the water content of the equilibrium parental alkali basaltic melt was estimated to be between 1.5 and 2.1

Geological and geochemical characteristics and genesis of the Cishan gold deposit in Tongling ore cluster area, Anhui Province

open access: yesSolid Earth Sciences, 2020
The Cishan gold deposit is a newly discovered medium-scale independent skarn gold deposit located in the Tongling ore cluster area of the Middle-Lower Yangtze Metallogenic Belt, and the ore-related intrusion is the Cishan pyroxene diorite. In this study,
