Epaphroditidae sensu novo, an Endemic Caribbean Family of Morphologically Divergent Praying Mantises (Insecta, Mantodea)

Neotropical Entomology, 2017
Three endemic Caribbean praying mantis genera with a complex taxonomic history were recently discovered to be part of a lineage that colonized the Caribbean region during the Cretaceous period (Svenson & Rodrigues, Proc R Soc B Biol Sci 284, 2017).

Sexual dimorphism of auditory function and structure in praying mantises (Mantodea; Dictyoptera)

Journal of Zoology, 1990
Sexual dimorphism of tympanate auditory systems in insects has bees described in only a few taxonomically isolated cases. However, widespread sexual dimorphism occurs in the ultrasound‐sensitive, midline ear of the praying mantis. In dimorphic species, it is always the female mantis that shows a reduction in ultrasonic hearing.

New data on the fauna, taxonomy and ecology of praying mantises (Dictyoptera, Mantodea) from Russia

Entomological Review, 2015
Two little-known species of praying mantises, Severinia turcomaniae (Saussure, 1872) and Rivetina nana Mistshenko, 1967, are reported for the faunas of Russia and Europe for the first time based on the material collected in Astrakhan Province of Russia. New data on the morphology, ecology, and distribution of these species are given. The male genitalia

Zootaxa, 2014
We present the first checklist of praying mantids (Mantodea) of Borneo, with special reference to the specimens collected during the Scientific Expedition to Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary 2008. With 118 confirmed species in 56 genera (including subgenera), Borneo is the island with the highest mantodean diversity known to date. In Lanjak Entimau 38

Earth and Environmental Science Transactions of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 2019
ABSTRACTThe fossil cockroaches (Blattodea), praying mantises (Mantodea) and earwigs (Demaptera) are described from the Insect Limestone (Priabonian) of the Isle of Wight, southern England. Three new species of cockroach are described in the family Ectobiidae –Phyllodromica protosardeasp. nov.,Balta protosimilissp. nov. andMalaccina?wightensissp. nov. –

The northernmost Eocene genus and species of praying mantises (Mantodea Burmeister, 1838) from Fur Formation, Denmark

Zootaxa
A new fossil mantis, Sergyessa rusti gen. et sp. nov., is described based on a complete forewing from the Fur Formation, Ypresian (lower Eocene) of Denmark. The new genus can be easily distinguished from other praying mantis genera by a long ScP ending at ¾ of the forewing’s length, R with long anterior branches, CuA internally pectinate, CuP sigmoidal
