Modified rush venom immunotherapy in dogs with Hymenoptera hypersensitivity

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 532-542, December 2023., 2023
Background – Hymenoptera envenomation occurs frequently in people and dogs and can trigger anaphylaxis. Venom immunotherapy (VIT) is the only preventative treatment for Hymenoptera hypersensitivity and is indicated for people with severe adverse reactions to insect stings. Rush VIT is an accelerated VIT induction schedule performed in people.

The safety of rush immunotherapy in the management of canine atopic dermatitis—230 cases

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 385-392, October 2023., 2023
Background – The duration of the induction phase of allergen‐specific immunotherapy conventionally is a period of several weeks, during which the volume of an allergen solution, administered by injection, is gradually increased until the maintenance dose is reached.

Value of human‐modified forests for the conservation of canopy epiphytes

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 958-968, July 2022., 2022
Although HMFs provide important refuge for many species, our results show that they do not provide suitable conditions for the maintenance of current or future canopy epiphyte communities. Our findings suggest that conserving large continuous old‐growth forests is the only viable conservation option for protecting most vascular epiphytes.

Riparian reserves protect butterfly communities in selectively logged tropical forest

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 6, Page 1524-1535, June 2022., 2022
Mandatory conservation set‐asides around streams or rivers (riparian buffers) have an important role in protecting the abundance and composition of primary forest butterfly assemblages within selective logging concessions in tropical rainforests. This study highlights the need to assess the conservation value of protecting unlogged riparian forest ...

Uncovering the vertebrate scavenger guild composition and functioning in the Cerrado biodiversity hotspot

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 53, Issue 6, Page 1582-1593, November 2021., 2021
The aim of this study was to describe for the first time the scavenger community and identify the factors affecting scavenging efficiency in the Brazilian Cerrado. We analyzed the effects of vegetation cover, time of carcass placement and carcass weight, on scavenger species richness, individual abundances, carcass detection and consumption times, and ...

Using leading and lagging indicators for forest restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 58, Issue 9, Page 1806-1812, September 2021., 2021
Leading indicators complement lagging indicators and can be used in forest restoration beyond monitoring and evaluation. Indicators can also be used in the design, adaptive management and reporting of restoration interventions. Leading indicators can be used to identify issues that might prevent success in a timely manner so they can be addressed ...

Tribological properties of hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles or graphene nanoplatelets blended with an ionic liquid as additives of an ester base oil

open access: yesLubrication Science, Volume 33, Issue 5, Page 269-278, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Antifriction synergies between an ionic liquid (IL) and nanopowders as additives of an ester base oil were analysed at rolling conditions. For this aim, two nanodispersions based on hybrid combinations of hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles (h‐BN) or graphene nanoplatelets (GnP) with tri(butyl) ethylphosphonium diethylphosphate ionic liquid ...

Stakeholders engagement as an important step for the long‐term monitoring of wild ungulate populations

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 2, Issue 3, July–September 2021., 2021
Ongoing monitoring is essential for the management of wildlife populations. The collaboration between local stakeholders and researchers is envisaged as an important partnership to monitor game species for long periods and vast territories. Here, we implemented a framework aimed at broadening the field applicability of Distance sampling techniques to ...
