Boat Noise and Black Drum Vocalizations in Mar Chiquita Coastal Lagoon (Argentina) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Human-generated underwater noise and its effect on marine biota is recognized as an important issue. Boat noise can affect the communication success of fish species that use sounds for spawning purposes. During the reproductive period, males of the black

Transcriptomic differentiation underlying marine-to-freshwater transitions in the South American silversides Odontesthes argentinensis and O. bonariensis (Atheriniformes). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2017
Two species of silversides have very different patterns of gene expression in the gill due to the different environments they inhabit, despite little documented genetic divergence between them. Abstract Salinity gradients are critical habitat determinants for freshwater organisms.

The reproductive biology of Ellochelon vaigiensis from the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Ellochelon vaigiensis is a synchronous spawner, with peaks in reproductive activity from June to October. The length at 50% maturity for females is significantly higher than that for males at all sites and ranges from 10.6 to 19.3 cm. The diameter of the eggs examined for this species exhibited slight variation, from 0.43 to 0.54 mm.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal mediation of plant-plant interactions in a marshland plant community. [PDF]

open access: yesScientificWorldJournal, 2014
Obligate aerobic AMF taxa have high species richness under waterlogged conditions, but their ecological role remains unclear. Here we focused on AM fungal mediation of plant interactions in a marshland plant community. Five cooccurring plant species were chosen for a neighbor removal experiment in which benomyl was used to suppress AMF colonization.

First molecular identification of the trematode Maritrema bonaerense Etchegoin & Martorelli, 1997 (Plagiorchiida, Microphallidae) from its intermediate hosts, the gastropod Heleobia australis (d’Orbigny, 1835) (Littorinimorpha, Cochliopidae) and the crab Neohelice granulata (Dana, 1851) (Decapoda, Varunidae) in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesZoosystematics and Evolution, 2023
The genus Maritrema Nicoll, 1907 (Platyhelminthes, Trematoda, Plagiorchiida, Microphallidae) comprises cosmopolitan species that predominantly parasitize birds.

First record of Porichthys porosissimus Cuvier, 1829 (Actinopterygii: Batrachoidiformes) and Macrodon atricauda Günther, 1880 (Actinopterygii: Perciformes) in Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon, Buenos Aires, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List, 2014
We report the first record of Porichthys porossisimus and Macrodon atricauda in the Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon, Argentina. Morphometric and meristic data of collected specimens are also presented in order to validate its taxonomic identification.

An integrative salt marsh conceptual framework for global comparisons

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 830-849, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Salt marshes occur globally across climatic and coastal settings, providing key linkages between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. However, salt marsh science lacks a unifying conceptual framework; consequently, historically well‐studied locations have been used as normative benchmarks.

Processes that drive the population structuring of Jenynsia lineata (Cyprinidontiformes, Anablepidae) in the La Plata Basin

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 11, Page 6119-6132, June 2021., 2021
The processes of population diversification are complex and are not limited to a single mechanism. Population structuring may lead to population reproductive isolation and ultimately to speciation. Abstract The distribution of genetic diversity across a species distribution range is rarely homogeneous, as the genetic structure among populations is ...

Scientific opinion on the import of Musa fruits as a pathway for the entry of non‐EU Tephritidae into the EU territory

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2021., 2021
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Plant Health examined evidence as to whether the import of fruits of Musa (bananas and plantains) could provide a pathway into the EU for Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) or other non‐EU Tephritidae for which Musa is a host. Relevant scientific and technical

RADIOMETRIC CHARACTERIZATION OF A MARSH SITE AT THE ARGENTINIAN PAMPAS IN THE CONTEXT OF HYPERNETS PROJECT (A NEW AUTONOMOUS HYPERSPECTRAL RADIOMETER) [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
In the context of HYPERNETS project, which is developing a relatively low cost hyperspectral radiometer (and associated pointing system and embedded calibration device for automated measurement of water and land bidirectional reflectance), the tidal ...
