Inverse probability weighted Bayesian dynamic borrowing for estimation of marginal treatment effects with application to hybrid control arm oncology studies

Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics
We propose an approach for constructing and evaluating the performance of inverse probability weighted robust mixture priors (IPW-RMP) which are applied to the parameters in treatment group-specific marginal models.

The effect of periodontal treatment on the connective tissue fibers of the marginal gingiva: II

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1954
Tests with disclosing solution and repeated biopsies of the marginal gingiva after periodontal treatment show the positive effects of therapeutic measures. Home care included the daily use of soft bristle toothbrushes, unwaxed dental floss and a water spray.

Fooled by Randomness. The Misleading Effect of Treatment Crossover in Randomized Trials of Therapies with Marginal Treatment Benefit

Cancer Investigation, 2021
Crossover can bias clinical outcomes of randomized clinical trials by increasing the risk of both type I (false positive) and type II (false negative) errors. To show how crossover can increase type I error, we provide computer simulation and review herein illustrative examples (iniparib, olaratumab) of recently reported RCTs that demonstrated false ...

Estimating marginal treatment effects in heterogeneous populations [PDF]

open access: possibleAnnals of Economics and Statistics, 2007
This paper proposes a nonparametric method of estimating marginal treatment effects in heterogeneous populations. Building upon an insight of Heckman and Vytlacil, the conventional treatment effects model with heterogeneous effects is shown to imply that outcomes are a nonlinear function of participation probabilities.

Regression‐with‐residuals estimation of marginal effects: a method of adjusting for treatment‐induced confounders that may also be effect modifiers

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series A (Statistics in Society), 2019
When making causal inferences, treatment‐induced confounders complicate analyses of time‐varying treatment effects. Conditioning on these variables naively to estimate marginal effects may inappropriately block causal pathways and may induce spurious ...

Effect of post-implant edema on prostate brachytherapy treatment margins

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 2005
To determine if postimplant prostate brachytherapy treatment margins calculated on Day 0 differ substantially from those calculated on Day 30.Thirty patients with 1997 American Joint Commission on Cancer clinical stage T1-T2 prostatic carcinoma underwent prostate brachytherapy with I-125 prescribed to 144 Gy.

Effect of margin status and pathological grade in treatment of sinonasal mucoepidermoid carcinoma

The Laryngoscope, 2020
ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate the association of demographic factors, grade, margin status, and treatment modalities for overall survival in patients with sinonasal mucoepidermoid carcinoma (SNMEC).Study DesignRetrospective database review.MethodsThe National Cancer Database was queried for patients of all ages with SNMEC ...

Effect of respiratory trace shape on optimal treatment margin.

Medical physics, 2011
To evaluate the effect of target trajectory shape on the optimal treatment margin.Intensity-modulated radiation therapy and volumetric modulated arc therapy plans were created for three spherical targets (3, 5, and 7 cm diameter) simulated in exhalation phases, each with margins of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm to account for motion.

Corneal Cross-Linking: An Effective Treatment Option for Pellucid Marginal Degeneration

Seminars in Ophthalmology, 2019
Purpose: This is the first review article examining literature specific to the use of corneal cross-linking (CXL) to treat pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD). Results: CXL appears to be an effective treatment that may halt the progression of PMD to stabilize vision.

The effect of monitored chlorhexidine gel treatment on mutans streptococci in margins of restorations

Journal of Dentistry, 1998
The objective of this study was to compare the effect of a monitored chlorhexidine (CHX) gel treatment with a conventional two-day CHX treatment in subjects with well-restored dentitions and high numbers of salivary mutans streptococci (MS).In the test group (n = 8), the effect of the CHX gel applications was monitored in margins of restorations and in
