Mobile consumers influence the shoreward edge of intertidal seagrass ecosystems

Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.

Predator‐guild‐specific parental responses mitigate higher predation risk on ground nests close to forest patches in a mosaic landscape

Predation increases close to habitat edges, but how animals cope with local predation variations remained poorly studied. In a mosaic landscape, lapwings were compensating for increased nest predation close to forests. They acted more aggressively towards an avian predator when nesting close to trees, but comparatively tamer against a mammal.

The Silent Standpoint: How Professors Explain Gender Disparities in Academia

ABSTRACT Based on 77 qualitative interviews with professors in higher education, this article explores the interviewees' opinions on how gender disparities in academia should be explained. We show that male professors relate women's career barriers to family factors and women's own interests and preferences.
