Adsorption of Mussel Protein on Polymer Antifouling Membranes: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Biofouling is one of the most difficult problems in the field of marine engineering. In this work, molecular dynamics simulation was used to study the adsorption process of mussel protein on the surface of two antifouling films—hydrophilic film and ...

3D Printed Omniphobic Slippery Liquid Infused Porous Surfaces for Low Surface Tension Repellency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A 3D printing strategy fabricates omniphobic slippery liquid‐infused porous structures with lubricant reservoirs and interconnected microchannels. A post‐printing surface treatment modifies the porous surface to ensure compatibility with the infused fluorinated lubricant.

Materials Selection for Antifouling Systems in Marine Structures

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Fouling is the accumulation of unwanted substances, such as proteins, organisms, and inorganic molecules, on marine infrastructure such as pylons, boats, or pipes due to exposure to their environment. As fouling accumulates, it can have many adverse effects, including increasing drag, reducing the maximum speed of a ship and increasing fuel consumption,

Novel Zwitterionic Polydopamine Nanofiller‐Reinforced Hybrid Membranes With Superior Antifouling Performance for Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work reports one‐pot synthesized novel zwitterionic polydopamine‐silica (ZSiPDA) nanofillers for fabricating PES hybrid ultrafiltration membranes with enhanced hydrophilicity, permeability, and antifouling performance. The optimized membrane achieved over 91% humic acid removal and showed strong potential for municipal wastewater treatment.

Evaluation of dihydrooroidin as an antifouling additive in marine paint [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, 2009
Methods used to deter biofouling of underwater structures and marine vessels present a serious environmental issue and are both problematic and costly for government and commercial marine vessels worldwide. Current antifouling methods include compounds that are toxic to aquatic wildlife and marine ecosystems.
