An investigation into the adsorption of cyanophages to their cyanobacterial hosts [PDF]

open access: yes
Cyanophages, viruses that infect cyanobacteria, are known to be abundant throughout the world’s oceans. They are important because of the ecological significance of their hosts which are prominent primary producers.

Zooplankton Community Stability and Environmental Filtering in a Shallow Eutrophic Lake

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Anthropogenic pressures led to zooplankton shift to small‐bodied dominance, not structural reorganization. Integrated management is crucial for long‐term resilience. ABSTRACT Zooplankton are key regulators of trophic interactions and nutrient cycling in shallow eutrophic lakes and are sensitive indicators of ecological responses to anthropogenic ...

Heme b in marine cyanobacteria and the (sub-) tropical North Atlantic

open access: yes, 2012
Heme b is the iron containing prosthetic group to an important pool of iron proteins known as the hemoproteins. Hemoproteins are functionally diverse, playing key roles in photosynthetic and respiratory electron transfer (e.g. cytochrome b6f, photosystem

The Great Bustard (Otis tarda) and Common Crane (Grus grus) Utilize Food Resources via Gut Microbiota Remodeling During Wintering in the Yellow River Wetlands in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study detected the diet and gut microbiota of great bustards and common cranes in the wintering duration in the Yellow River Wetlands of Inner Mongolia using high‐throughput sequencing technology. This study indirectly indicated that great bustards and common cranes are well‐adapted to the environment of the Yellow River Wetlands during the ...

Determination of polyphenols and antioxidant activity of monoclonal cultures of marine microalgae and cyanobacteria.

open access: yes, 2014
Nowhere on Earth exists a biological diversity as large as in the oceans, providing abundant resources for research and development. The special geoclimatic conditions in the Canary Islands, with high solar radiation, represent a challenge for marine ...

Historical Contingency Drives Freshwater Microbial Community Assembly Across Successional Time

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Using a 60‐day full‐factorial reciprocal transplant microcosm experiment, we quantified the relative contributions of historical contingency, environmental selection, and dispersal limitation to freshwater bacterial community assembly. We show a pronounced temporal shift from early dispersal‐driven assembly to late‐stage dominance of historical ...

Advances in High‐Throughput Sequencing: Antimicrobial Resistance and Traceability of Foodborne Pathogens

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
In this graphical abstract, the transfer experiment of antimicrobial resistance genes and metagenomic analysis are presented, and they are the core components of relevant microbial research. ABSTRACT High‐throughput sequencing technology (HTST) can effectively analyze the sequence information in the DNA of samples and provide a comprehensive ...

Cultivation of Electrogens With Cost‐Effective Membrane‐Less Bioreactor Designs

open access: yesFuel Cells, Volume 26, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Rational improvements in bioreactor design for scaling up power generation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are discussed in this study. The potential of autoclavable MFCs for isolating electroactive bacteria that produce sustainable electricity is being investigated.

Exploring Global Patterns of Trace Metal Limitation as a Regulator of the Distribution of Dominant Marine Phytoplankton Groups

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 2, June 2026.
By synthesizing decades of culture data with modern oceanographic datasets, we modelled trace metal limitation of phytoplankton. Our analysis reaffirms the critical role of iron but additionally highlights a significant, growing impact of zinc on the biological pump in future oceans.
