Marine diesel engine exhaust noise1

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1968
Data are given on the acceptability of exhaust noise on bridge wings due to the gaspulses of large low-speed marine diesel engines, directly coupled to a constant pitch propeller. ISO noise rating numbers are used. For full speed ahead N 75 is the upper limit of acceptability.

The axial stiffness of Marine diesel engine crankshafts1

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1967
The measurement of the axial stiffnesses of the cranks of four full scale crankshafts, supported by the engine main bearings, is described. The results are discussed and compared with those of the calculations using six published formulae. The relationship between the coefficients and the angles of adjacent cranks, or the “mean” crank angle, is ...

Diesel Fuels in Marine Operations

1954
There are a variety of diesel engines Used in marine service, ranging from small life boat and generator engines up to high horsepower, low-speed, main propulsion units having cylinder diameters of 30 in. or more. In a particular ship, moreover, several sizes of engines are generally used, one for propulsion, and others for the various auxiliary uses ...
