Comparative kinetics of the snowball respect to other dynamical objects [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Fisica E 50 N. 1 (2004) P. 65-73, 2003
We examine the kinetics of a snowball that is gaining mass while is rolling downhill. This dynamical system combines rotational effects with effects involving the variation of mass. In order to understand the consequences of both effects we compare its behavior with the one of some objects in which such effects are absent.

Gut Microbiome Pilot Study of Patients With CHARGE Syndrome and Sibling Controls

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Difficulties with feeding and digestion are common in individuals with CHARGE syndrome. Animal models with CHD7 gene variants demonstrate abnormal gut innovation and dysmotility. Our pilot study evaluated whether individuals with CHARGE syndrome have differences in their gut microbiome compared to unaffected siblings.

Massively parallel computation of globally optimal shortest paths with curvature penalization

open access: yesConcurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Volume 35, Issue 2, 25 January 2023., 2023
Abstract We address the computation of paths globally minimizing an energy involving their curvature, with given endpoints and tangents at these endpoints, according to models known as the Reeds‐Shepp car (reversible and forward variants), the Euler‐Mumford elasticae, and the Dubins car. For that purpose, we numerically solve degenerate variants of the

Seismotectonics of Bosnia - Overview [PDF]

open access: yesActa Geodyn. Geomater., 3 (2), 17-29, 2006, 2006
Seismotectonics of Bosnia seems to follow the Mediterranean marine regime. Earthquakes occur mostly in the outer Dinaric Alps (southern Bosnia), while the strongest earthquakes occur within the Sarajevo Fault system in southern and northwestern Bosnia. In addition to active tectonics being strong, crustal earthquakes occur often as well.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in Drinking Water Policy: A Realist Review

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures have a deep, enduring connection to water. However, since Australia's colonisation in 1788, water management has shifted, creating ongoing issues for these communities. Notwithstanding the universal recognition of safe drinking water as a human right, significant inequities persist, particularly ...

Identification of proteins responding to pathogen-infection in the red alga Pyropia yezoensis using iTRAQ quantitative proteomics

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Pyropia yezoensis is an important marine crop which, due to its high protein content, is widely used as a seafood in China. Unfortunately, red rot disease, caused by Pythium porphyrae, seriously damages P.

Plastics of the Future? Interdisciplinary Review on Biobased and Biodegradable Polymers: Progress in Chemistry, Societal Views, and Environmental Implications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Global demand to reduce polymer waste and microplastics pollution has increased in recent years, prompting further research, development, and wider use of biodegradable and biobased polymers (BBPs). BBPs have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional plastics, with the potential to mitigate the environmental burdens of persistent plastic waste.

1H NMR metabolic profiling revealed characteristic metabolites in mud crab Scylla paramamosain for different geographical origins

open access: yesJournal of Applied Animal Research, 2019
The geographical origin of mud crab (Scylla paramamosain) has been arousing increasing interest to consumers due to their flavour and market price. In this study, an NMR-based metabolomics method was used to characterize the differences in the chemical ...
