Single‐Atom Photocatalyst as Floatable Artificial Leaf for Upcycling Oceanic Plastic Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To resolve the catastrophic disaster of oceanic plastic pollution, the novel Ru single atom loaded ZnIn2S4 photocatalysts, in the forms of powder or floatable artificial leaf, were prepared for direct conversion of raw polypropylene plastic into valuable chemicals. The optimized catalyst exhibits exceptional performance, with a total formic/acetic acid

No compromise between metabolism and behavior of decorator crabs in reduced pH conditions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many marine calcifiers experience metabolic costs when exposed to experimental ocean acidification conditions, potentially limiting the energy available to support regulatory processes and behaviors. Decorator crabs expend energy on decoration camouflage

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Wave Power Extraction from a Dual Oscillating-Water- Column System Composed of Heave-Only and Onshore Units

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
With the aim of broadening the wave-frequency bandwidth of high-efficiency, a small-scaled dual oscillating-water-column (OWC) system consisting of two heave-only and onshore units was numerically investigated by a well-validated computational fluid ...

Immune and Stem Cell‐Mediated Bactericidal Amplification and Bone Remodeling for Infection Clearance and Osteointegration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A pH‐responsive biomaterial interface integrates bactericidal peptides, cell‐recruiting peptides, and magnesium ions into a multifunctional system. Infection‐induced acidification triggers antimicrobial peptide release while cell‐recruiting peptides mobilize bone marrow stem cells.

Expected Effects of Offshore Wind Farms on Mediterranean Marine Life

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2016
Current climate policy and issues of energy security mean wind farms are being built at an increasing rate to meet energy demand. As wind farm development is very likely in the Mediterranean Sea, we provide an assessment of the offshore wind potential ...

NEEDLES IN A HAYSTACK: COST-EFFECTIVE SAMPLING OF MARINE SPORT ANGLERS [PDF]

open access: yes
An obstacle to conducting economic studies of marine sport anglers is the difficulty and expense in drawing a representative sample. Unlike inland fishing, where licenses are required in all states, only selected states require a marine sport fishing ...

Effect of Surface‐Lubricant Compatibility on Bubble Formation in Lubricant‐Infused Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Lubricant‐infused surfaces reduce drag partly through bubbles that form when lubricant depletes. Using laser‐textured steel infused with silicone oil, we show that microbubble nucleation occurs even on surfaces fully wetted by the lubricant, regardless of chemistry.
