Abstract Fruit size, shape, color, and percent fruit rot are important quality traits for breeding cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait.). Climate extremes threaten the sustainability of cranberry production, a culturally and economically important North American crop. This study demonstrates that wild cranberries (Vaccinium oxycoccos) harbor genetic variation that may enhance cold stress resilience when introduced into cultivated cranberry through hybridization.

A TETRA‐primer amplification refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction (T‐ARMS‐PCR) method was developed for simultaneous detection of the L412F/V and G408V mutations. L412F/V mutants were created using the CRISPR/Cas tool and no fitness cost was observed.
