Evolutionary associations between sand seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius) and silver seatrout (C. nothus) inferred from morphological characters, mitochondrial DNA, and microsatellite markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The evolutionary associations between closely related fish species, both contemporary and historical, are frequently assessed by using molecular markers, such as microsatellites.

Deep Learning Approaches for Classifying Crack States With Overload and Predicting Fatigue Parameters in a Titanium Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study proposes a deep learning approach to evaluate the fatigue crack behavior in metals under overload conditions. Using digital image correlation to capture the strain near crack tips, convolutional neural networks classify crack states as normal, overload, or recovery, and accurately predict fatigue parameters.

Cultivation and metabolic versatility of novel and ubiquitous chemolithoautotrophic Campylobacteria from mangrove sediments

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Chemolithoautotrophic members from the Campylobacteria class are dominant key players in sulfidic habitats, where they make up a stable portion of sulfide-oxidizing bacterial communities. Nevertheless, few isolates have so far been cultivated and studied
