Dynamic upper-ocean processes enhance mesopelagic carbon export of zooplankton fecal pellets in the southern South China Sea [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences
Zooplankton are key contributors to the marine biological carbon pump by converting phytoplankton-derived organic carbon into fast-sinking fecal pellets.

Exploring the cranial morphology and possible convergences of Triassic non‐crocodylomorph pseudosuchians (Archosauria: Pseudosuchia) with other sauropsids through linear morphometrics

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Triassic pseudosuchians had highly diversified cranial morphologies. These archosaurs occupied diverse ecological roles, ranging from terrestrial predators and herbivores to semiaquatic ambush predators and possible waders. Here, we apply linear cranial morphometrics to assess possible convergences with other sauropsids from the clades ...

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Mesoscale eddy-strengthened deep-sea topographic Rossby waves in the southwestern South China Sea

open access: yesScientific Reports
Topographic Rossby waves (TRWs) dominate the low-frequency variability of deep ocean currents and play a crucial role in energy exchange and material mixing.

A Geomorphometric Approach to Estimate the Deterioration of Earthen Archaeological Sites by Rainfall and Diffusion Processes: The Huaca Chornancap (Eighth–14th Century ad), Lambayeque, Peru

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rain‐induced erosion processes can severely damage Earthen archaeological sites. Huaca Chornancap (HCH; eighth–14th century ad) is a platform located in the Lambayeque region (Peru) exposed to seasonal rain due to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

Structural and Reservoir Characteristics of Potential Carbon Dioxide Storage Sites in the Northern South Yellow Sea Basin, Offshore Eastern China

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in offshore saline aquifers stands as a primary option for reducing CO2 emissions in coastal regions. China’s coastal regions, particularly Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, face significant challenges in CO2 ...
