Heatwave and infants' hospital admissions under different heatwave definitions [PDF]
Objectives\ud \ud Data on the health impacts of heatwaves in infants are limited, and this study aimed to examine how heatwaves affect hospital admissions in infants.\ud \ud Methods\ud \ud A quasi-Poisson generalized additive model was used to assess the

Decadal Prediction of Marine Heatwaves in MPI‐ESM
AbstractMarine Heatwaves (MHW) are SST extremes that can have devastating impacts on marine ecosystems and can influence circulation patterns in the ocean and the atmosphere. Here, we present a first attempt to study the decadal predictability of MHW in an ensemble of decadal hindcasts based on the Max Planck Institute Earth System Model.

From Rare to Recurrent: Intensifying Hot–Dry Extremes Across Romania
Romania has undergone a marked shift toward more frequent and spatially extensive compound hot–dry months since the 1990s, with persistent hotspots in the eastern Moldavian Plateau and the lower Danube–Bărăgan–Black Sea lowlands and comparatively buffered conditions at higher elevations.

Compound marine heatwaves and ocean acidity extremes
Compound extreme events in two or more oceanic ecosystem stressors are increasingly considered as a major concern for marine life. Here the authors present a first global analysis on compound marine heatwave and ocean acidity extreme events, identifying ...

Marine heatwaves are global phenomena that can have major impacts on the structure and function of coastal ecosystems. By mid-2014, the Pacific Marine Heatwave (PMH) was evident in intertidal waters of the northern Gulf of Alaska and persisted for ...

ERA5 Can Overstate Changes in the Frequency of Extreme Heat: A New Zealand Case Study
ERA5 reproduces broad patterns of summer warming across New Zealand but underestimates temperature variability and warm‐tail extremes, biasing estimates of extreme heat risk. ABSTRACT Summertime temperature extremes exert profound impacts on human health, ecosystems, and infrastructure, yet their characteristics and drivers remain poorly quantified in ...

Four decades of UTCI data show increasing thermal stress along Ghana's coastal‐urban corridor, with very strong heat‐stress days rising by about 1.4 days/year. Random Forest–SHAP analysis with temporal validation identified AOD as the strongest model‐based predictor of monthly UTCI variability, followed by TSA, WHWP, and AMO.
