Thermal displacement by marine heatwaves
Nature, 2020Marine heatwaves (MHWs)-discrete but prolonged periods of anomalously warm ocean temperatures-can drastically alter ocean ecosystems, with profound ecological and socioeconomic impacts1-8. Considerable effort has been directed at understanding the patterns, drivers and trends of MHWs globally9-11. Typically, MHWs are characterized on the basis of their

Marine heatwaves under global warming
Nature, 2018Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are periods of extreme warm sea surface temperature that persist for days to months1 and can extend up to thousands of kilometres2. Some of the recently observed marine heatwaves revealed the high vulnerability of marine ecosystems3-11 and fisheries12-14 to such extreme climate events.

Marine heatwaves in the Mozambique Channel
Climate Dynamics, 2021Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are becoming more frequent and intense around the world leading to long-term impacts on ecosystems and subsequent socioeconomic consequences. To date, MHWs have not been considered in the Mozambique Channel, a highly biodiverse region with sensitive coral reefs.

Marine heatwaves are areas where sea surface temperatures are elevated for extended periods of time. They have been observed in various locations around the world including the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea. Climate change scenarios indicate increasing ocean temperature as well as heat content. In combination these conditions will

Are marine heatwaves increasing the likelihood of terrestrial heatwaves?
2021<p>Despite numerous studies that have examined terrestrial or marine heatwaves independently, little work has been done investigating any possible association between the two. Examination of a limited number of past events suggests that co-occurring terrestrial and marine heatwaves may have common drivers, or may interact with each other.

Caribbean Sea Marine Heatwaves tide to Indian Ocean Marine Heatwaves
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are not a phenomenon confined to local areas. Instead, they may interact with other regions through specific teleconnection patterns. Numerous studies have revealed the occurrence, variability, and future trends of MHWs. However, the connections between MHWs in different regions still require further research.Zeyu Li, Jianping Li

Global propagation of marine heatwaves
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are extreme warming events in the ocean that can significantly impact marine ecosystems and economies. While such extreme events have garnered significant research attention in recent years, most research to date took an Eulerian perspective, that is, they considered MHW as stationary objects.Emma Ferri +3 more
