Advanced Mathematical Modeling of Sonar-Induced Bubble Growth and Coalescence in Humans and Marine Mammals

2008
Abstract : For high gas supersaturation levels in liquids, on the order of 300% as predicted in capillaries of marine mammals following a series of dives, standard mathematical models of both static and rectified diffusion are found to underestimate the rate of bubble growth by 10%-20%.

Marine mammal passive acoustics applied to the monitoring of long-term trends in beaked whale abundance and to the derivation of a behavioral risk function for exposure to mid-frequency active sonar

Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2016
Knowledge of Cuvier’s (Ziphius cavirostris) and Blainville’s (Mesoplodon densirostris) beaked whales’ distinct dive and vocal behavior has allowed for the development of multiple methods of passive acoustic abundance and density estimation (Marques et al., 2009, Moretti et al., 2010).

Status and future of research on the behavioural responses of marine mammals to U.S. Navy sonar

2015
A review of the status and future of research into behavioral responses of marine mammals to naval sonar exposure was undertaken to evaluate the return on investment of current US Navy funded programs, identify the data needs and the contributions of current research programs to meeting data needs, and determine the ability to meet outstanding data ...
