MARINE RESERVES WITH ENDOGENOUS PORTS: EMPIRICAL BIOECONOMICS OF THE CALIFORNIA SEA URCHIN FISHERY [PDF]

open access: yes
Marine reserves are gaining substantial public support as tools for commercial fisheries management Harvest sector responses will influence policy performance, yet biological studies often depict harvester behavior as spread uniformly over fishing ...

Ocean zoning within a sparing versus sharing framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The land-sparing versus land-sharing debate centers around how different intensities of habitat use can be coordinated to satisfy competing demands for biodiversity persistence and food production in agricultural landscapes.

Bioinspired Morphology‐Decoupled Soft Gripper with Enhanced Bidirectional Grasping Capability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological predation, a novel gripper decouples cross‐modal grasping via dual morphological configurations. Synergistically integrating hybrid rigid and soft coupled fingers with a metamaterial palm, the system performs active compliant grasping for static objects and passive cage capture for dynamic targets.

The Decreasing Availability of Settlement Surfaces Affects the Transition From Larvae to Early Recruitment of the Scallop Argopecten purpuratus Through El Niño and La Niña Episodes

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Despite their importance as a larval source for the aquaculture industry in several countries, natural stocks of pectinids have been heavily impacted by a variety of natural and anthropogenic stressors.

Dual‐Network Protein Hydrogels Promote Rapid Hemostasis and Immune‐Regulated Scarless Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐network protein hydrogel substantially improves hemostasis and scar‐free healing. The adaptive network maintains intimate tissue contact while providing strong wet adhesion, tunable mechanics, and controlled degradation. Concurrent ROS scavenging and M2 polarization suppress fibrotic pathways, preventing scar formation.
