Unraveling the Effect of Fire Seasonality on Fire-Preferred Fuel Types and Dynamics in Alto Minho, Portugal (2000–2018)

open access: yesFire, 2023
Socio-demographic changes in recent decades and fire policies centered on fire suppression have substantially diminished the ability to maintain low fuel loads at the landscape scale in marginal lands.

A silvicultural stand density model to control understory in maritime pine stands

open access: yesiForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, 2017
The aim of this study was to provide optimal silvicultural guidelines for the maintenance of low understory vegetation cover in maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.) stands in Mediterranean areas prone to the occurrence of forest fires.

Silvicultural evaluations on maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Aiton) plantations in Istanbul

open access: yesİstanbul Üniversitesi Orman Fakültesi Dergisi, 2016
Industrial plantations have substantially reduced the pressure on natural forests. There are approximately 80.000 hectares of industrial plantations, established with fast growing coniferous species, 77.000 hectares of which are maritime pine plantations

Neural network modelling of rainfall interception in four different forest stands [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2013
The objective of this study is to reveal whether it is possible to predict rainfall, through fall and stem flow in forest ecosystems with less effort, using several measurements of rainfall interception (hereafter ‘interception’) and an artificial neural

Anomalous roughening of wood fractured surfaces

open access: yes, 1998
Scaling properties of wood fractured surfaces are obtained from samples of three different sizes. Two different woods are studied: Norway spruce and Maritime pine. Fracture surfaces are shown to display an anomalous dynamic scaling of the crack roughness.
