Diffusion and Home Range Parameters from Rodent Population Measurements in Panama

open access: yes, 2005
Simple random walk considerations are used to interpret rodent population data collected in Hantavirus-related investigations in Panama regarding the short-tailed cane mouse, \emph{Zygodontomys brevicauda}.

Jervell and Lange‐Nielsen Syndrome Related Clinical Genetics and Experimental Models

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Jervell and Lange‐Nielsen syndrome (JLNS) is defined by electrocardiographic QT prolongation and sensorineural hearing loss, caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in KCNQ1 and/or KCNE1. KCNQ1 encodes the alpha subunit Kv7.1 of the ion channels accountable for slow delayed rectifier potassium currents (IKs), whereas KCNE1 ...

Digitizing collections to unlock the full potential of palynology: A case study with the Smithsonian palynology collection

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Large palynological collections have been built over decades and contain vital information. However, they are often difficult to access and use effectively. What is the point of having such collections if they are not fully utilizable? To solve this problem, we digitized the Smithsonian palynological collection using both light and confocal microscopy.

Mobile application for wildlife capture–mark–recapture data collection and query

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2013
Capture–mark–recapture (CMR) approaches are often used in the management and conservation of wildlife species and effective approaches to estimate populations rely on accurate data‐collection techniques.

Circular 116 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Free-range reindeer in western Alaska are managed for both velvet antler and meat production. Optimal management should maximize the income generated from both meat and antler production while managing the herd at levels below the carrying capacity

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

Hydropower Operations Reduce Alluvial Nesting Habitat and Alter Riverine Turtle Population Demographics

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydropower management has altered discharge regimes of large rivers worldwide, reducing sediment mobilization and early‐seral conditions essential for many riverine species. Spiny softshell turtles (Apalone spinifera) rely on alluvial habitats for nesting and may serve as sentinel species to assess the effects of regulated flow regimes and ...

Population Dynamics of Northern Pearl Dace Margariscus nachtriebi in Anthropogenically Altered Headwater Streams of the Nebraska Sandhills Ecoregion

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Empirical evidence of population demographic responses to environmental perturbations is a major knowledge gap for aquatic vertebrate populations. Extensive habitat alteration including channelization of headwater streams influences the habitat template on which small‐bodied fish are dependent to carry out distinct life stages and maintain or ...
